Disappointing performance from Laois tonight. Theyâre better than that but given the week those players and especially the keeper have had youâd wonder how much was in the tank. When the game was there to be gone for it just looked like they hadnât any juice.
Was that the year of the incident with the laois man?
Sligo after winning a very enjoyable Connacht u20 final there in Tuam. Youâd have to have great respect for them, they have made big strides in football and hurling in recent years. Considering the top 3 positions in the national league were held by the traditional big 3 in Connacht itâs some effort to claim some silverware themselves at underage.
Looked the fitter side. Entertaining game. Young Kilcommins did not want that ball at the end.
Is it straight knockout at u20?
Galway and Roscommon looked impressive earlier in the year, thatâs a very notable win
It is at that stage
Watching it here on TG4 thinking I was watching it live. Doh. Anyway was just about to comment how impressive Sligo are. They have had a couple of notable underage sides now in recent years. Obviously lot of good work being done there. Great to see.
Sligo look the real deal the past couple of years. Be great for Connacht if they were able to compete at senior. That mullet lad at full-forward was class.
I wasnât even going to watch but was surprised when I saw the bookies had them favourites so thought Iâd have a look. Whatever it is about it, Tuam is a great ground for producing good games.
Galway blew that really. Had 3 great goal chances down the stretch and conspired to miss all of them. Had they taken even one it was game over. Left the back gate open for Sligo to sneak it.
Kind of showing signs of where Tipp were at 10 or so years ago with underage. Tipp were able to break the duopoly in munster underage as Sligo are doing now. It didnt translate into a sustained period of success at senior but there was a munster title and an AI semi final run under 2 different managers. But that is the first port of call, beating them underage. I was surprised to see that from Cork winning minor All Ireland and U20 winning teams in 2019 only 1 of those 40 players started against Clare in Ennis the last day so there are no guarantees either.
Two U20 Connaught titles and a Minor is a great set of silverware in recent years. It would be great to see Sligo return to the level they competed at in the 2002-2012 period.
Great finish to that game in the deferred coverage there. The No.19 fisting it off the crossbar and over at the death for Sligo.
Weâre primed to take the wind out of their sails in the MFC on Friday evening.
They have in fairness put massive effort into the whole underage in the past 5/10 years.
The Red Ăg Murphy factor is spurring them on to give the last drop. I couldnât begrudge them.
Until Friday.
As we well know in Limerick, senior is a different animal than underage. Even worse now itâs u20 and u17
/down with this sort of thing
U17 bears no resemblance to senior inter county. the year makes some difference as has been repeated. Iâd like to know how many minor medallists are still in the country 4 years later.
Fair fucks Sligo. The centre of excellence was a good investment. As was the dome in mayo. If you build it they will come.
Sligo have the advantage underage of there being fcuk all else to do. At senior, this becomes a negative as theyâd have a lot of folk move away Iâd imagine.
Sligo accent is bizarre. Half of them affect Dublin inner city, half of them affect Dublin 4 and a third half an American twang.
If they built that new city theyâd have a reason to stay.
