Meath selectors quit in row over Geraghtyâs return

MEATHâs championship preparations have been thrown into disarray by the decision of Liam Harnan and Barry OâCallaghan to step down as selectors.
Harnan and OâCallaghan, the only two Meath men in Seamus McEnaneyâs management team, are understood to have departed because they werenât consulted about Graham Geraghtyâs return to the panel.
On Friday, Harnan wasnât in a position to confirm or deny whether the 1999 All-Ireland winner had come back although McEnaney already had that day.
Harnan may have only discovered the news when asked about it by a journalist.
Speaking to The Irish Examiner last night, Harnan confirmed both he and OâCallaghan had withdrawn from their positions.
âWe have done it for personal reasons,â said the two-time All-Ireland winner.
Harnan also said neither he nor OâCallaghan would, under no circumstances, return to the roles they have vacated. Meath face Kildare in a Leinster SFC quarter-final at Croke Park on June 5 with McEnaneyâs management team now reduced to selector, Armagh man Paul Grimley, and coach, Tyroneâs Marty McElkennon.
McEnaney was at OâMoore Park yesterday where Kildare were convincing winners over Wicklow.
After the tie, Kildare boss Kieran McGeeney suggested the development could bring the Meath camp closer together.
âSome things can galvanise a camp, some things can go against it,â he said. âWhat youâd think would galvanise it doesnât, what you think wouldnât can.â
McGeeney also took issue with remarks made by Geraghty about a potential Leinster semi-final against Dublin.
âI always find the teams that we play tend to be in disarray. They seem to be well up for it and Grahamâs back and Grahamâs on about looking forward to playing Dublin so theyâre obviously quite confident of beating us.â
However, McGeeney also praised Geraghtyâs playing attributes.
âWhen I played against him he was a brilliant player and he played there against Kildare in the Anthony Rainbow game and he looked hot to trot then. Grahamâs very confident and if he plays any part thereâs no doubt itâll be a good part.â
Fooking hell, when was the last time Gerahty played inter county? Meath are a disgrace.
Banty will be gone in days, if not hours. At which point I would pile on those Meath cunts to come out of this fighting like only they know how.
DP
I think we would prefer to get our info from a more credible source to be honest mbb if thats alright.
Changing posts now. Its a sadder fuck you are becoming.
Pile on a team you donât rate and that you pointed out have sub standard backs quite recently.
Emmm.
Christ almighty, Clarkeyâs thread is starting to make sense now. Youâre gas too all the same
Some crazy shit going on with Meath just before the championship. Hard to believe that the manager thinks Geraghty is the answer to their problems. Cant blame the two selectors quitting if they are not being informed of these decisions. Can see them getting a hiding of Kildare in the next round.
Banty was the wrong man in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was disasterous. Theyâre getting their karma from last years Leinster Final. Too all intents and purposes, Kildare should mop the floor with them. Theyâre over rated, underpowered and in turmoil. But Iâve seen these cunts up close too many times as have you. You know what theyâre like, never trust them, ever. I could see them canning Banty in the coming days, getting a young manager in with Boylan to give a rousing few speeches, and then watch them rip the dressing room doors off Croke Park as they come out.
If you think that kind of lark will work with footballers at this level these days then your even more of a bluffer than i thought.
Donât particulary care what you think or thought mate.
Donât think that will work with the current crop of Meath players, they are not the same as the ones in 80âs and 90âs. Think it is going to be a short summer of championship football for Meath, if the only player they can call on is Graham Geraghty. Shocking stuff if this is the case.
Just a little scarred from them I guess. Theyâll be fit, and theyâve three dangerous forwards at least still therel. Its not that long ago they hockeyed Dublin remember? I understand what youâre saying, but Iâd still be wary of them.
So, MBB, are you saying Kildare will mop the floor with them or Meath will hockey Kildare because theyâll be fit and dangerous?
I believe I said Kildare should mop the floor with them, but I would never disregard a Meath side when they believe the world is against them mate.
