Official All Ireland Senior Football Championship 2011 Thread

Mayo three clear through Andy Moran in ET and London seem to have missed their chance.

1 point game, hon ta fook LDN

Half time London one down got a goal just before half time. Shock still on!

Connacht Football

Mayo by 3, mainly thanks to Andy Moran it seems. Maybe Conor Mortimer was right after all.

It was some night’s drinking with the Mayo lads in London last night - Mayo and Barca forever

Ben Brosnan is like Conor Mortimer if he had football ability.

That was one serious goal by Mark Poland

Anyone other than the blinkered mbb give a run down on the Armagh-Down game, seems like it was a good game and Armagh impressed?

So this is what mbb does all day.

GAABoard is your best bet for a rundown, it’s heavily Ulster orientated.

I’d say Derry will beat Armagh, can’t see Armagh do too much with a half forward line of Tony Kernan, Billie Joe Padden and Malachy Mackin. Armagh have looked good in some matches under O’Rourke but generally follow it up with poor performances. They’ve had the indian sign over Down for years now. They looked horribly limited against Dublin last year though and in most of their league matches and I’d strongly bet that Down will outlast them in the championship. But they need Ambrose Rogers back.

Derry-Donegal Ulster final for me.

Huh?

Armagh were good but how good are Down actually? Very lucky to make the final last year

Down haven’t beaten Armagh in Championship in 20 years now, bit of an Indian sign there at the moment. Hard to read too much into either side yet though but Down did get a nice run last year, which you need in the qualifiers. Offaly could and should have beaten them last year. Time will tell. The rumours aren’t going away about Martin Clarke heading back either.

Care to expand on that?

Beating Kerry well, beating a very good Kildare team (ok the goal was a square ball), and losing by a point in the All Ireland final does not equate to luckiness for me.

They have two of the best forwards in the country in Clarke and Coulter, two other excellent forwards in Poland and Hughes, a decent midfield in Fitzpatrick and King and probably the best centre back in Ireland in McKernan. McVeigh is an excellent keeper as well.

I thought they were a breath of fresh air last year, and barring a collapse of confidence after this match will be in the shake up in August.

I would imagine he was referring to the fact that they could have been beaten by Longford, Offaly and Kildare, three average Leinster sides. They also got Sligo a week after their Connacht Final win before beating a Kerry side missing Galvin and TomĂĄs O SĂ©.

Kildare - an average Leinster side? You’re having a laugh. By your reckoning then, your favourite team Kerry were lucky to win it the year before seeing as they should have been beaten by Longford and Sligo, both games which were much closer than Offaly and Longford were with Down.

Yeah, Kerry were missing two players but Down beat them convincingly. Couldn’t ask for any more than that.

My favourite team is Laois Farmer.

Kildare havent won silverware in 11 years Farmer, show me your medals.

Kerry were lucky to get over both those games, who would say otherwise?

Ya I would regard Kerry as having been very lucky to win it the year before. I’m not saying Down are a bad side just I don’t think they were in the top two last year (they were arguably not even the best side in Ulster). They were exposed badly by Cork once they copped their system. I think everyone knows how they play now and they’ll struggle to get past the quarters. I think Marty Clarke is an awesome player but I find Benny Coulter to be massively overated.

I can’t agree with that at all. I think Coulter is class.

Also I don’t know how you can say that they were badly exposed by Cork. Cork won by a point!
