Official All Ireland Senior Football Championship 2011 Thread

I don’t judge a player on one year. Kavanagh was decidedly average when in Ja’s. I saw CLarke play Schools and it was plain as day what he had. Walsh may become outstanding, but a player showcasing the poor decision making allied to poor execution of shooting as he did last year can’t be called outstanding just yet. I’m sure he will, but not yet in my book. You won’t agree, and thats fair enough, you’re entitled to think your own way.

Of course a player can be only judged really over time, i agree. So at Senior IC Clarke, Walsh, Kavanagh & Sheehan all fall into that category. Thats the highest level, and last year is the only year we can judge any of them on.

And on Walsh, i probably have seen him more and since he was young. Like Clarke it was obvious he had talent. Mind you that guarantees nothing. By the end of the year he had straightened up considerably and won MOTM in an All-Ireland at 19. The way he leads the U-21’s was very encouraging as well.

Whats Ja’s by the way?

Kavanagh was on that Jarlaths team with Mick Meehan that beat Dec O Sullivans Scellige

Oh right, didn’t know there was still boarding there.

Anyway things can change alot from underage, Jaime O’ Sullivan couldn’t make his school team and was MOTM last sunday. Eoin Cadogan was a below average footballer till 17. Fellas improve.

I agree fella’s improve, but I also believe fella’s can fire out a once in a lifetime season and never reach it again, which is my point.

Galvin an injury worry for Kerry

05/05/2011 - 12:18:43
Paul Galvin has emerged as an injury concern for Kerry ahead of their Munster SFC quarter-final against Tipperary on Sunday, May 22.

Galvin sustained a hamstring injury in the Allianz Football League win over Down in Killarney last month and has not trained since being substituted during that game.

Kerry manager Jack O’Connor told the Irish Examiner: "I’m not sure (about Paul’s availability for the Tipperary match), to be honest.

“I can’t give a definitive answer other than to say he hasn’t returned to training since the Down game. He has issues with it (the injury).”

O’Connor was pleased with how Kerry’s recent training camp in Portugal went, with Dingle’s Tommy Griffin, who missed the league campaign with a tendon injury, the only other player currently sidelined.

“Apart from Galvin, we came out of the weekend away fine. Tommy Griffin is still struggling. He hasn’t done anything major as of yet,” added O’Connor.

This year’s Munster Senior Football and Hurling Championships will be launched at the Mallow GAA Complex on Monday, May 16.

Meanwhile, Eamonn Fitzmaurice is poised to take on the Kerry Under-21 football manager’s role. The former Kerry defender and selector, who served as a member of O’Connor’s backroom team for two seasons, is expected to be appointed at next Monday’s meeting of the Kerry County Board.

Pat Spillane and Mickey Ned O’Sullivan were also thought to be in the running, but Fitzmaurice is seen as the preferred choice.

John Kennedy stepped down from the managerial position in the aftermath of Kerry’s 2-24 to 0-08 Munster Under-21 final defeat by Cork last month.

A very odd quote.
I wonder is fashion getting in the way?

Just read back through that preview post of Kev’s and the comparison of Alan Dillon being as creative, as hardworking and more consistent than Ciaran McDonald is astounding.

You are clearly fooled by the spectacular. I would suggest (without having any detailed stats) that Dillon is on the ball far more than McDonald was. He is a very productive player and a very under rated one.

Don’t get me wrong, McDonald was a super player and talent, but his consistency was an issue.

But if thats all you quibble with i’m happy enough  . Its there to be questioned, i would just hope you’d be able to back up any cutting you do.

Perhaps you can point out where McDonalds consistency was an issue?

Disappointed nobody helped with any wild speculation regarding my Paul Galvin post.

He can’t Farmer, because McDonald’s serve the same menu in all their restaurants everywhere.

Consistency is their hallmark.

I asked you to back up your astonishment.

Carry on.

Runt - JOC talks like that all the time, he gives the impression of an awful cunt altogether really. Wouldn’t read too much into it yet, unless you have further knowledge*

*any scurrilous unfounded rumours will do.

how are mayo shaping up this year?

Read my article or fuck off.

Spoofer.

Ya, sure i am.

You acn’t back up what you are indicating. Dillon has been good or very good more or less every time i’ve seen him. McDonald gave a number of outstanding performances, but i remember him being red raw useless against Galway at least twice and Cork in big games.
