They were decent games as well, particularly the Rackard final. Armagh are a quality outfit at that level and they were a far more stylish team than London. Delighted to see them win it as well, would have meant fuck all to London by comparison. Kerry were fairly unlucky to be beaten. Serious drama right at to the finish, Westmeathâs winning point was the last puck of the game. Youâd like to see them get a higher profile because thereâs nothing wrong with them from an entertainment point of view. In fact youâd have to say each of the games were a lot better than yesterdayâs Leinster final.
I read the chapter in Sean Kellyâs book about the introduction of the Ring/Rackard competitions recently enough. Itâs not hard to figure out who stopped them being played before the All-Ireland semi-finals. Disgraceful shit.
tommy and michael guilfoyleâŚdidnât he get a hand injury in a lawnmower accident on the eve of a big munster champo match in the early '90âs ??..missed the match because of itâŚstrange cunts them âFakelâ boysâŚ
In relation to the Ring/Rackard Cups, Kelly says âI wanted the Christy Ring and Nicky Rackard Cup finals played in Croke Park as curtain raisers to the All-Ireland Senior semi-finals (the Liam McCarthy Cup). Now this is where it got tricky. The curtain-raisers had always been the Minor Hurling semi-finals. And who normally contested these? The traditionally strong counties of course. I was told âyou are throwing out the minors. the stars of the futureââŚIt was the weaker counties, either Minors or Seniors, that never got a chance to play in Croke Park. Besides, the Minor final was still going to be played ahead of the Senior finalâŚThe proposal went to central council, and after strong debate my recommendation was carriedâ.
Prior to this passage, he refers to the HDCâs efforts to have the Ring/Rackard competitions introduced amongst the other major changes, and states that âdespite opposition from such strong counties as Cork and Kilkennyâ they were overwhelmingly accepted.
Now combined with the timing of the Rackard/Ring cups return to oblivion, youâd have to be fairly blind not to see why it happened. That to me, is sickening shit.
Its wrong what they done, and this is the kinda shite MBB should be on about in relation to Frank, and not trying to suggest he won All-Irelands for Cork, which is beyond ridiculous.
With the MInors getting the final there was nothing to lose really. How many people go in for All-Ireland semi finals in minor anyway.
