Official All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 2010 Thread

de duds closer to a nicky rackard than an all ireland

Thats worse again, sorry for your trouble sid and Meath to come next week too, best dulin hulers can hope for now is to be drawn against Limerick

Don’t think the Dublin team are about to turn into alcoholics just yet.

Magnificent achievement by Henry Shefflin all right, I suppose. I suppose you don’t really think about records like this when you’re still playing but I suppose there was a bit of a mention of it during the week, I suppose, so I suppose he was aware of it at the same time. I suppose when he retires he’ll only really get a proper chance to realise how impressive the scoring record is, I suppose.

That’s now confirmed. A prediction so good it’s almost Dunphesque.

Replay Saturday evening in Portlaoise. Damn, I was hoping they’d make it a triple decker in Croke Park next Sunday.

I hope the Biffo’s have more luck in Portlaoise in a replay than we had in Tullamore in our replay.

Is the pitch in Portlaoise much smaller than Croke Park? The smaller the field gets the more it suits those Galway mullockers.

Moore Park would be known to be a fine big pitch, but not as big as HQ.

Great game in Croke Park there today. The 2nd half reminded me at times of the 05 semi final, there was so much going on at such speed. Its the 2nd year in a row Galway have been involved in the game of the Summer and both in the Leinster Championship as well.
Galway were caught cold but should have won. They were in the process of asserting themselves when the ref threw Offaly a lifeline by harshly sending one of their lads off and then of course the biffo’s got their 2nd wind after that with the injustice of it all. Still, could not begrudge them the draw and it was like watching the Offaly of the 90s at times out there today. Shane Dooley is one of the best hurlers in the land, no question.

We missed Andy Smith big time I thought. Harte was not at the races and Healy despite an instant point wasn’t much better when he came in for the 2nd half. Lee will be a straight swap for Regan the next day and it might be time to bring Adrian Cullinane back into the fray as Donal Barry froze a bit today. Ollie Canning has seldom had such a bad day in the maroon jersey and Kavangh was caught out today as well for Offalys 3rd goal. The warning signs were there in the league final and out full back line got hit hard today. Either they quickly regain command there again or Galway can forget it.

Its not all doom and gloom, far from it. Midfield were superb today I thought and Joe, Hayes, and Tannion all picked off some big scores when they were really needed, most teams in the country would have been beaten by Offaly in Croke Park today, Kilkenny , Cork and possibly Waterford being the only other exceptions. The making of the Galway football team of 98 were two gruelling games they were the big favourites for against Roscummon and Im sure John Mcyntire, who has plenty of questions to answer himself, will be reminded of this salient fact before the week is out. Brian Cody for one would not be delighted at the prospect of either of these teams getting another 70mins of high intensity championship hurling under their belts after the lukewarm nature of Kilkennys facile win over Dublin today.

Having watched the last ten minutes of that game again I have to say Johnny Ryan gave Offaly every chance to get back into it. Lots of handy frees. Trying to make up for the sending off maybe. Damien Hayes made a pure fuck of it near the end for Galway. All he had to do was pick up the ball and hold onto it and they’d the game won. You wouldn’t mind but he was roaring at Aengus Callinan for not giving him the ball two minutes earlier.

Think they mentioned in the tv3 commentary today that out of the all time top five scorers in the championship, four of them went to St Kierans. Some statistic.

it’s actually 5 of the top 6.
Keher, Shefflin, Carey, Eoin Kelly and Nicky Rackard.

Where did you see the last ten minutes of this game again?,it wasnt broadcast live anywhere and the Sunday Game showed less than ten minutes of the entire game,i was at the match and reckoned that Galway got the benefit of most of the 50/50 refereeing decisions on the day,he was very good to Joe Canning a few times and blew for at least three questionable frees that Farragher tapped over.Galway were blessed Yesterday, with 15 men Offaly would have prevailed.

It’s probably on the RTE Player.

presume RTE showed a live stream on their website

Thats a handy set up i must have a look some time,Offaly might have lost thier chance Yesterday but they should have some kind of chance in the replay considering that Mcintyre has some serious problems to address with his team,Tony Og Regan isnt good eneogh at this level,he was destroyed by the ultra effective Joe Brady Yesterday.Donal Barry looked lost and will look lost again before the Year is out if they persist with him,John Lee improved matters a bit when he came in but he didnt dominate or anything near it,Shane Kavanagh is a basic full back,Joe Dooley knows the score re Ollie Canning, find his man and not the space in front of him and Canning is fucked.

Kenny did a good job on Joe Yesterday by ploughing into him at the right moment a few times, another ref might view this as fouling,Offaly had impressive performers in Rigney and Dylan Heyden,if these fellas and Dooley,Bergin and Brady can do the business again they will be in with a shout, they’d be far more used to the Portlaoise pitch than Galway aswell. All in all id hope for Galway to win the replay and set up a good game in the Leinster final against Kilkenny, just as well we’ve got the Leinster championship for entertainment,Munster is offering up poor fare.

Not sure i’d fancy going out with his bird, who seems to be more into hurling and the GAA than he is. She was quite scary on that show the other night. Not bad looking or anything, but quite intense.

That was on in the pub in the background on Saturday night. Which one was Shefflin’s bird? There was a decent blonde one, a classy looking one with a scarf or something and a distinctly ordinary looking one.

Classy - Sean Og’s
Ordinary - Ollie Cannings i think, it was an Ollie anyway.
Good looking blonde - Henry’s bird.
