Official All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 2010 Thread

Incredibly greedy there from The Show. Man to his right.

31mins: Galway 0-9 Offaly 3-6

Joe Brady point puts them seven ahead. Galways mullocking, rugby tackling style under McIntyre not working too well in the open spaces of Croke Park.

Half-time: Galway 0-11 Offaly 3-7

Offaly look far sharper so far. Galway sluggish and struggling to find their forwards with ball. Should be a great second half.

Clowns in TV3, they pick the wrong game 9 times out of 10.

They did this time anyway. I suppose these would have been agreed sometime around Christmas? There was still hope of the Limerick crisis beign resolved back then.

I think its obvious for some time now that Leinster hurling is where its at.

Two goals in a minute have Galway 2-15 to 3-8 ahead

For the first one, Cyril Donnellan stumbles to the ground in the score, takes about twelve steps, and offloads to Canning who buries it. Second one is a lovely first time finish from Ger Farragher. Galway have upped it noticably.

Offaly now down to fourteen men.

Three points on the trot for Offaly. Galway lead by one.

Superb stuff there by 14 man Offaly and I give them my grudging respect. Shane Dooley’s last two points to tie it up were excellent, especially the pressure free from distance with the last puck of the game. I expect the replay to be on Saturday night in Portlaoise probably.

Shane Dooley levels it with the last puck of the game. Some match!

Cork-Limerick in a normal year would always get more viewers than Offaly-Galway, thats just the way it works.

Magnificent interviews with Tommy Walsh and Henry Shefflin on TV3 there.

Was the Offaly-Galway game on TV? I thought it was Cork-Limerick?

It was live on the web. Decent feed too.

Best game you’ll see all summer anyway. Cracking atmosphere even with only 25k there (less with Dublin supporters leaving). It’s always a much better atmosphere when the sun is blazing down. Galway will probably been them out the gate in the replay but I was delighted Dooley put the free over. Some roaring out if the Offaly lads when it went over.

Joe Canning went for a goal from a 21 yard free when it was one 0-1 to 0-0 and I thought it summed up a complacent attitude throughout the Galway team in the first half. You can never trust a Galway hurling team. Ollie Canning looks past it at this level.

As the first match, fuck off.

Hard luck Sid, it kinda got away from ye there at the end.

Kilkenny had a bit of a flat performance. Good in fits and starts. Richie Hogan was very poor. Surprised he lasted past half time.
He hit a number of wides and dropped a couple of balls short. He seemed a bit lost at centre forward and wasn’t much better when moved in to the corner.
Richie Power was quiet enough apart from his wonder goal. Larkin looked sharp enough when he came on. As did Fogarty.
Mulhall had a poor enough cameo. Tommy and JJ were incredible. Great to have JJ back wing back.
My brother marked JJ in a club match recently, he texted me at half time, delighted that JJ was catching more ball off the Dublin lad than he did on him.
Hickey got burned once in the first half. He looked strong in the air.
Brian Hogan was ok centre back. Nothing special.

Jackie has always had a problem with throwing the ball. He was due to be called on it. He’ll have to cut that out and quickly. Otherwise he was good.
As was Dalton. Given the number of goal chances Dublin had it was impressive that we didn’t concede a goal.
Obviously I’d rather we didn’t give up the chances.
The two Micks in midfield worked tirelessly and hit an amount of ball.
I thought Gorta played well. We really need him in the forward line to win the ball and work to get it back when lost.

Eddie had a bit of an up and down game. His goal was well taken but he fluffed a couple of later opportunities.
TJ did well for the first goal but will need to cut out the wides.
Henry Shefflin. The highest scoring senior championship hurler of all time. Legend.
It is disappointing that there has been such little fanfare about such a momentous milestone.
The Americans know how to treat such records. They made a massive deal of Brett Favre breaking Dan Marino’s touchdown record. GAA didn’t even blink when it happened.
The PA should have announced the achievement at the very least.

Galway were very poor. Offaly dominated them particularly when contesting scrappy ball. Brady, Bergin and Dooley were all excellent.
Joe Canning has this habit of standing in a ruck of players and attempting to roll lift one handed and expects the ball to come to him and a few times today they lost the ball as a result.
I think he needs to be tougher in situations like that. Offaly muscled him out of it a few times. The fullback Kenny did a good job on him while he was full forward. Joe’s sideline cuts were incredible. I thought they should have brought him out to centre forward earlier. Had they not when they did, I think they would have lost.
Barry had a mare at half back. Hanniffy made a how of him early on. Lee added stability when he came on. Farragher was excellent.

I said to Braz with about 20 minutes left that “there is a smell of a draw off this”.
The Offaly lads around us were going mental about the first Galway goal.
They went even more mental with the sending off.
I dunno about ye but I think it is bullshit to be sent off for a shoulder in the chest. Yellow is fine. Red is excessive.
If I were an intercounty manager and red is the directive I’d be telling my players when they have the ball and they see a situation arising when a player will come to hit them a shoulder that instead of turning their body to match the hit shoulder to shoulder, they should turn the opposite direction and get hit by the opposing shoulder in the chest. It all happens so fast in situations like that if you get it right you could really take advantage. Sad but true.

Didn’t know you were you were a faithful sid, it sounded like the best game of the summer pity they fuckers in TV3 or RTE did show it. I’d fear ye left it after ye BUT you never know with ye and repalys who knows better than us

TC, Sid is a jack.
