Football off to an interesting start. Serious game last night to get it started. Dubs already look a better outfit without Cafferys bullshit. Tyrone were a class apart. A elder in the club at home told me today he thought it was the most complete game of football he ever saw, not sure if thats true as i missed 25 mins, but it was good. I believe the rules are working.
Put in the results i have below. If some one was at a match ye could put in a short report after it maybe. Notable starting point is the amount of away wins, and the good scoring.
Serios debate please. That means you fuck off to fuck NCC.
Wexford 2-9 Armagh 4-16
Fermanagh 1-10 Monaghan 2-12 Cork 1-15 Meath 0-09 Cork had it very easy over Meath. The Meath warm up led me to believe they weren’t up for it. Terrible slow warm up drills. I rang a buddy to get on Cork to beat spread, and they did. Alan O’ Connor was MOTM by a mile, but most of the usuals played well. Noel O’ D was excellent in first game at full back. Even though Cork had all the ball and Meath were feable, Conor Mac and Gould still managed to make several mistakes. Gould improved, but when are they going to accept Conor Mac isn’t an IC footballer. Good start, but still glimpses of old failings, slowing up ball around the middle too much.
Div. 3
Roscommon 0-16 Offaly 0-7
Tipperary 1-9 Down 0-18
Div. 4
London 2-7 Leitrim 2-12
Sligo 3-20 Kilkenny 0-4
Carlow 0-10 Clare 0-12 - Great win for Clare.
Antrim 0-15 Wicklow 3-6
I missed the 2 goals in the Dublin game while drinking on the concourse. Because it’s the league though, and the players haven’t been training, I assume that it’s hard to really gauge if Dublin are really any closer to Tyrone than we were in August.
I would say its a good indication of it to be honest. I don’t think Dublin have put in huge training like they have in past 4 years at this stage, yet were up with them after a while. Its just the attitude of the Dubs was noteable. Maybe its Gilroy, maybe its the new rules, but i thought they were far more interested in football than they have been.
Is it only this season that the county teams have been banned from meeting up then? I know there is a fear of burnout, but I wouldn’t have thought that the players would have done much more training at this stage of the season in previous years than they have now? The little errors that can prove costly are still there though, such as the Dublin goalkeeper kicking the ball straight to an opponent (although in this specific instance he somehow got away with it as the chance was wasted).
Thats because they only open the main stand, where the camera is situated. I would like to see a bigger crowd in that stand, but its the nature of Corks footballing support. I don’t think your uncovering anything new here.
Flano seems to be enjoying his new alias alright;)

it appeared all the stands were open as there was a few people in them
They would be working hard on their own, no doubt about that, but i would say the approach to fitness and and conditioning training has been reeled in a fair bit by most Counties. Skill and teamwork are more important. In general i think the GAA (especially football) has got a grip on the training, and i think you will see far better football in the next few years. The fitness won’t drop, its just the people training teams now have a combination of fitness expertise and a footballing brain on them. Managers got carried away with conditioning, but of course the best condiditioning for playing Gaelic Football, is actually playing it. I think you will see the toughest time of the year for a football teams training will now be about 4-6 weeks ahead of the first round, not in Jan-Feb as it used to be.
That doesn’t mean guys won’t be in gyms etc, just their training schedules and programmes are changing from the past few years.
I was at the match NCC. If you think you know better then belt away. They were probably ground staff. I parked under the uncovered stand, it was not open.
Just watching Sunday Sport there.
Apparently Kerry and Donegal have never met in the Championship.
Mad.
Why, the back door is only there for a few years. And Donegal have only won 5 Ulsters, 1972, 1974, 1983, 1990, 1992. I know that Cork won Munster on 3 of those years, Clare won one. So if i’m right i’d say the only possible meeting was 1972. So its not “mad” really.
Disappointed Limerick didn’t give a better account of themselves today up in Louth. Heard a bit of it on the radio and they don’t seem to have been at the races at all. They are missing a few lads at the moment but I still would have been hoping they would put it up to Louth.
Back door has been in since 2001 so that is another seven years.
Maybe not mad but I was surprised when I heard it.
I know what you mean. There is a few very strange ones though. I heard them before and they’d surprise you. I’ll try and ask one of the lads and post them up.
A bit GAA nerdy of me actually farmer.
Louth would be handy wouldn’t they? Especially at home. I can see Limerick being good this year. Good idea on the dual front i think. Do you agree Runt?
