Iâll give Sen his head. Serious rebuilding to be done there, and he knows the young fellas coming through better than anyone. Iâd rate him higher than Kearns anyway. Cheaper than Kearns too Iâd betâŚ
Laoisâs big thing is holding onto our young talent, Begley has been a huge loss for us, Meredith not so much, but heâd be an addition in a year or two. If we lose Kingston we might as well knock it all on the head because that lad is the best player Iâve ever seen at his age. Size. Strenght. Skill. Point frees off either foot from 40 yards, outrageously good. If the Aussies take him weâre fucked.

Ah christ, thats what youâre basing this on, Kearns?
Kearns done a fine job with Limerick, but was a fool imo. A bluffer who was content to talk the talk, but at the end of the day couldnt back it up.
I wouldnt base anything on him.
Youâre wrong about him, heâs no fool is Liam. If there was something rotten in the relationship between Kearns and Laois then iâd wager it wasnât down to Kearns. I know Limerick football inside out, and what he did in both the club scene and then intercounty was nothing short of sensational. Trust me on that.
If iâm proven to be wrong about Laois this summer then iâll gladly eat my words.

All I know is that he lost the dressing room and wasnât liked by many. Tried to make a big deal out of beating Wicklow in the Cship last year, WIcklow I fucking ask you. Youâd want to be hockey the likes of them out the gate. Then the lack of any sort of plan in the Wexford game was astonishing.
Last year, Laois won one competitive game, Wicklow. That was enough for me.
Iâd agree with MBB here, I was just talking to a current Laois player on saturday night, and he has been on the panel for 10 years, and his opinion was that Kearns was a bluffer of the highest order.
I donât know lads, obviously I canât argue his time in Laois was a failure, but he definitely worked wonders with that Limerick team. All Ireland U/21 Finalists, Came within in a whisker of beating Kerry on more than one occassion and finally put a bit of belief back in Limerick football. I know he didnât see eye to eye within everyone in Limerick either but that didnât matter as the team was producing the goods.
For what itâs worth I went I met a Laois player who told me that Mick OâDwyer was a spoofer, and the worst manager he had ever played under. So if these Laois players didnât have faith Micko, Kearns was fighting an up hill battle straight away.
Very few Laois players had a bad word to say about Micko, Iâd wonder who that one was, a PM sil vous plait?
Coming to the end of his reign many wanted him to revitalise his regieme, but what makes Micko what he is is his routine, changing it neuters him. I wouldnt criticise the man one jot. There are Laois footballers who had run ins with him, and I know on who was possibly one of our best underage footballers who had a huge run in with him, but this will happen in sport.
Wtih regards to Kearns record with Limerick, I never called that into question. He done a fantastic job down there. But the job he had to do in Limerick and the job in Laois was very different, the way he worked in Limerick was not going to work in Laois, and he wasnât able to change his style.
After we mentioned Kearns, i asked how he rated Micko, and he said very highly. Said he unbelievable motivator and man-manager, and knew how to get the best out of lads. His training was very old school, but he got the results.
Micko was what was needed for Laois at the time, and he got the best out of a bunch of players who were underperforming and underachieving badly.
Kearns wasnât the right man for Laois at that time, but perhaps he was the only one who wanted it. Following Micko was never going to fun. Saying that, he done ok out of it if rumours are to be believed.

I sent you a pm on this.
I kinda thought you were running down Kearns in general but I get what you were saying now. In fairness I think there arenât many inter county managers who can/have worked the magic in a few different counties.
No I think youâre right on that. Kearns deserves huge respect for what he achieved with Limerick, I think he wasnât ready for the job that was there for him in Laois.
