Official TFK Irish General Election 2024

Each candidate is allowed to send one free item to the registered voters in their constituency.

I’m sure that also using free post from the Dáil is against the rules as it gives sitting TDs or senators an unfair advantage.

There’ll be fellas putting a death grip on their phones and wallets when @binkybarnes and his little Dublin street urchin sit in in the middle of them.

He’s the mayor of Wexford at the moment isn’t he?

I’m ok with voting for a dislikeable prick if they get the job done. Sick of happy clappy TikTok politicians.

I’d say AK47 is a prick but both my parents reckoned he was the best politician in years in their constituency. And neither of them would be Labour people traditionally

O’Callaghan is at the useless end of the Soc Dems. An individual who proved that he couldn’t work in the system so tapped out.

His behaviour on transport has been poor.

He is supposed to be the party housing czar but they still brought in Rory Hearne. He has been ineffective and unable to get any traction beyond leaking stuff to Killian Woods in the Business Post.

I’ll tell you who not to vote for, Fine Gael. They need time on the sidelines.

The government urgently needs turfing out. Even as a far-right headbanger I’d sooner see a left government get in that this current shower of wasters

We had a rep from Jerry Buttamer (cc @Kyle) last evening. I was nice to him all the way through. Asked him the message they were giving (Jerry was nowhere to be seen), he had none, just handing out leaflets. He asked me was there anything I wanted to say, told him the five houses within 300m of our house that have laid vacant for around two years and informed him that FG have housing as their top priority. Told him that I’m not giving FG any make of a vote and wished him all the best with his thankless job.
Buttamer is a trough swilling shill!

Yeah he’s mayor practically every other year due to a council pact with FF. Didn’t central government pass some legislation to discontinue town corporations having a mayoral function around 10-15 years ago? A cost saving initiative or something. Think the local councillors were irked to lose the mayoral functions/junkets so they reorganised & passed whatever motions needed to reintroduce the mayor role under the auspices of the county council now rather than via town corporations. I may have that all wrong but I think there are mayors in all 4 county towns now.

They’ve come up with some list of things they want to do if they get back in, you’d have to wonder why they didn’t do them over the last number of years.

Even their list is shite. “We’ll do the same again, we’ll just spend more of YOUR money doing it”

Reducing childcare to €200 a month would be very welcome but I think they’re only proposing it because others are.

I’m sick of hearing promises about housing, we’re going around in circles and they never meet any targets.

@peddlerscross has the right idea when it comes to housing. We need to get back to developers bribing councillors like back when we were a proper country

Shur most of West Dublin would never have been built if a few brown envelopes weren’t delivered.

everyone is always proposing cheaper childcare mate

Rod is the one that cut it significantly

We’ve tried doing things by the book and it’s got us nowhere. Builders waiting around all day for a man with a clipboard to come along and tick a box. Nimbys holding things up instead of being bribed.

Bring Bertie back in as the building tsar and horse all the money we have out to any fella who owns a pair of yellow boots. Even if half of them fall down we’d be doing better off. And we get even mitigate this risk by diverting the worst materials and builders to a backwater like Donegal where nobody cares of if their McMansions collapse.

I know the Soc Dems are focusing in on vacant houses and getting them used and put back into the system. The government will refer to a grant that is available to those who want to bring derelict properties, and that works; family member is currently doing this but it was up to them to stump up the money first before getting it back. Look to potential homes that are laying idle. I said earlier of the five houses close to where I live which are idle or indeed boarded up - get the council in and do them up. 4/5 of those houses are from what you would say is a traditional council house. Just retrofit what is there ffs! The state should hire more tradesmen and get them working on these.

We need to get back to being a country that prioritized breakfast rolls and carvery dinners over Hyrox’s and Vaping.

Well said.

In a way it’s a pity Varadkar stood down as leader, they’d have been annihilated with him still in charge. Whatever about a career politician like Harris, Leo is as insincere a politician who ever held the top office. Had zero empathy for normal people, he liked the high profile, getting to visit the White House, the trips to Buckingham Palace etc but hated actually being held to account for anything on his watch, like a huge increase in immigration. In classic Varadkar fashion he leaves office and then says ‘we let the population increase too much’.
