Confession - I will be out of the country the day of the election. Simon did not consult with me when picking the date. First election of any kind where I won’t have voted since I got the vote. Jackie Fahey TD used to organise a bus for constituents in Dublin to go home and vote (for him).
A couple of friends have come across Cian O’Callaghan in their work for Fingal County Council and a civil service role. They both strongly think he’s a prick of the highest order and deeply dislikeable.
Very well known in Wexford town & the Wexford district but not sure he’ll have enough recognition in New Ross & Enniscorthy districts to hold the Labour seat. Is the Labour ‘brand’ strong enough? Is it more of a personal Howlin vote? We’ll see. Lawlor’s mug is emblazoned all over the Wexford People at events every week & many find him an engaging sort while others think he’s a bit of a dose. But sure that’s politics.
I don’t think it’s a political thing - they’ve spoken highly before about politicians from further left than Cian and scoffed at the ability of some FG politicians. I think it’s purely on the way he conducts himself at a professional level. I was surprised how similar and strong their comments were.
But sure if it makes it easier for you to pin it on something about rugby dads etc then as a rugby dad I’m hardly going to change your mind
Bernard lives around the corner from me. He’s a galway man. He’s a real nice fella though i don’t think he has a chance.
He has a daughter about 14 in a wheelchair. She is a real bolshy little one. About 2 years ago my young lad who would be around the same age was standing waiting to cross the road at traffic lights outside the school one morning. Your woman pulled up behind him in the wheelchair. When the lights turned green he stepped aside to let her go first. As she was going by him she said “you’re only letting me go first because I’m in this fucking wheelchair”. He was aghast telling us the story that night. His sisters still slag him about it. Cool story etc
Sinn Fein have added Evan Barry as a second candidate to the Tipperary North ballot. He ran in the locals in the Kilkenny City electoral area.
Unsure what, if any, name recognition he might have amongst the KK Northwest voting public
