SF manifesto out today. One thing that caught my eye was the childcare proposal to reduce cost to parents to €10/day (or about €200 per child per month)
SF claim this is possible by Sep 2025 and would cost approx €350 million.
It would be a superb policy achievement if delivered but if it costs so relatively little (less than a VAT cut to 9% for example) then why couldn’t this just be done by the current gov? Is it more complicated/expensive than SF make out or is there some other reason?
Joe would be to Joey Diaz like “This guy Si Harris is a freak, dropped out of community college at 19 with no money to become a community leader in The Projects because he felt powerless; his dad is like a trash collector, joins this obscure Fine Girl party, gradually climbs the greasy pole; dyes his hair grey; puts an axe in the back of his mentor who is like, the guy, who also rumour has it, is like his lover; refuses to hold an election; and suddenly he is like the Tea Sock leader of Free Gaelic Irish, like their king. It’s a crazy story, and the guy is like 27. Jamie, look up a picture of Si Harris, the guy is a fucking Silverback”
The VAT rate is just about increasing their margins and nowt at all about delivering a better price for the consumer. It’s a fairly material boost to their margin if the VAT rate is back at 9% and the price stays where it is…a 20k a week business makes 50k per year more
