I would say there are problems in how the media as a whole reports the conflict and the genocide, yes. But the term the media is as long as your arm. The media is not a singular entity.
I would say RTE is towards the very end of the list journalistic outlets at which you would say there is problematic reporting on Israel/Gaza. Sure I have problems with certain segments I’ve seen - particularly the periodic largely unchallenged platforming of the Israeli ambassador - but overall I would say RTE’s reporting and discussion of the subject has reflected reality and reflected context and is far superior to that offered by the vast majority of UK media including the BBC, and light years ahead of anything offered in mainstream US television.
Do you seriously think there is any point or any reason to waste a load of money on a bullshit investigation which is not there to ensure good reporting, but to ensure client reporting?
RTE is not there to be a cheerleader. SF seem to think it is. That’s not just a very dangerous road, that’s actually how democracies die. That’s what Putin does, it’s what the right wing bullshit machine in America is, what Orban does and the right wing regime in Poland did.
That now seems to be what you want. Bizarre.
SF have a problem with reality. They don’t like challenge. They aren’t interested in real answers and explanations to complex questions. Or real history. They prefer to shout stuff that might “feel good” at the time but doesn’t help anybody or anything except the distortion of reality. And it seems you do too.
That’s dishonesty.
Your response to me is “fuck off”. That’s not a very persuasive way to dispel concerns that Sinn Fein has an authoritarian bent.
Again, anybody who follows the social media game and how it works already knows this stuff. It’s basic observation. SF are clearly flirting not just with the Boris Johnson modus operandi but with Orban’s modus operandi and if they get into power that’s how they’ll operate.
They’re even telling you with their actions and rhetoric. Wake up.
I’m after drinking 5 pints in craobh chiarain after Na Fianna’s tremendous win over St Martins so i will be addressing nothing apart from the snack box Mrs Barnes sorted for me in Hillbillys.
Whenever the Israelis hit another hospital in the Gaza Strip, the RTE report will nearly always be something like: “The Hamas -led Gaza health ministry announced X number of deaths today”
What’s the narrative here, would you say? This isn’t reportage, it’s an opinion piece
Is it possible to say in the Middle East conflict that both sides - the Israeli government/IDF and Hamas - are absolute cunts, while having enormous sympathy for ordinary people stuck in the middle.
RTE deserve to be scrutinised, they’ve been given €725,000,000 of our money for the next three years so should be audited on their coverage of such a significant event. The Tubridy scandal has shown they are a corrupt, rancid organisation at the top so they shouldn’t be exempt from analysis or oversight.
If a local charity or group gets a government grant they’ve to fill out endless paperwork and red tape to draw down the funds, the national broadcaster shouldn’t be allowed do as they please when they receive so much of tax payers money.
Anyone who says they aren’t biased towards the current government either, is living on cloud cuckoo land in my opinion. The disdain for SF is palpable on every broadcast, the arse licking of Harris is utterly nauseating. If Mary Lou was pig ignorant to a carer it’d be the main story for a week.
Gav Reilly tweeting that the Irish Times have a poll in tomorrow’s paper too.
I see FG rolled Enda Kenny out to defend Si today.
I think the fake Independents might be the biggest winners from FG’s bubble bursting, more so than FF. Those types that are FFG in all but name yet blather on about being strong independent voices & not having to answer to anyone.
You’d be a fool not to be voting in an independent in your constituency. They will hold the balance of power after this election and there’s a ball of money about to be spent. There’ll be motorway to Kilgarven and a 50m pool in Granagh by the time the dust settles
It’s been the main story for days, including on RTÉ.
This is like the oddballs on Twitter attacking Hugh O’Connell under every tweet.
He just went though and got the McGahon story that has hugely damaged FG. It might give him a reprieve for a month or so from the dribblers but it will be back to business as usual in a few weeks when he dares to post anything vaguely related to SF.
I think it should be covered as thr genocide it is. The terms ethnic cleansing and genocide should be used every single time it’s being reported on. We hear about clashes and strikes as if there are 2 equal sides fighting. It’s mass murder, plain and simple. It should be recognised as such.
