Julio_Geordio:
Think the immigration thing will be a killer for them. A % who would have been SF voters previously will go for some lunatic alternative.
They’ll be nowhere near 2020. In 2020 they got people elected by accident, like that head banger in Clare. They’ll lose all those seats. Their 20% won’t get the same seats as FF or FGs 20%.
I’d tend to agree.
If FG have a bad election (looking likely) then FF will be the clear leader. However they’ll be less than 30% of the vote and trying to make a gov with another 20%+ being independents, a FG who won’t want to go in as junior coalition partners and SF who won’t want to either even if FF would have them (and I’m not sure they would under MM)
Could be a complete mess.

FF will have to form a government
Any chance FF could get in with greens/SD/labour? That wouldn’t be too bad.

At what stage do the small parties realise they get wiped out in the following election every time they go in with the big boys? Like FF’s mudguard

Agreed.
And surely SF would have to make a bit more effort than the last time.
Hopefully Mary Lou and MM are pushed hard on this in the debate this week.

Mary Lou will be gone if she doesn’t get into power this time. So it might be the only way to save herself
im told Michael Martin has a very positive can do attitude towards Climate change
the problem is, his party is mixed on this so if he left, the next guy could be a denier

You’d need a good few independents too surely. Hard to see a gov lasting long.
Also, Social Democrats are too pure for government.
its not about the party though, its about getting policies into place, is getting wiped a price worth paying for reducing emissions?

I suppose it’s a question of when wiped does MHR and co hold the balance of power and start rolling things back
The Healy Raes and Soc Dems would get on famous

I think the Greens have been quite clever this time enshrining policies in law which would be much harder to roll back

Martin is probably the best politician in Ireland and he’s a decent man that will try to do the right thing. The rest of his party are something out of backwards 1980s Ireland.

yeah, for all the quips about sleepy Eamon, he did well

I understand they fell out following the budget and lack of funding for disability groups.
No bullshit. As Martin O’Neill would say; I’m only serious!

This whole episode reminds me of this scene from The Thick of It…
