 I found that a lot funnier than I should have.

A bit of pointless maths of Wednesday morning, information which I’m sure is readily available in a more accurate format somewhere.

About this time two years ago, right in the heart of the shit hitting the fan, maybe more April time, I paid €1.16 for Diesel. At it’s low Crude fell to about $25 a barrel. It’s now about $125 a barrel (for easy maths), a 5 fold increase. Yet petrol is still about €2.

So roughly €0.85 on a litre is $100 a barrel, 23% of which is VAT. So actually about 65c a litre is petrol costs for $100 oil including the shops margin, the transport costs etc.

At current prices all costs bar tax would be around 82c

Nice little earner for the Gubbernment

Sure the reduction in excise brings us back to last friday prices.

Hungary have implemented a cost cap.

It’ll be back to yesterdays prices in a week I’d say.

I’d say it’ll be 3 euro a litre soon enough.
