Old Sporting Stadiums

One that I only learned today, Bramell Lane served as both a football ground and a Cricket pitch up to the early 70s.

I love those old floodlights.

Dalymount must be one of the only places that has them left.

They’ve just put 4 of them up in Wexford Park

Pictures?

My auld lad was telling me the new Wexford Park floodlights are the same as the ones used in the Qatar World Cup final stadium. There was a bit of a light-show before Argentina got the trophy and he was saying in all seriousness that it would be similar for the Walsh Cup game against Kilkenny later this month. I don’t know if somebody took the piss out of him or if he’s misinterpreted something or just decided this himself.

Supermacs was built the following year.

Mad to think now that’s well inside the city

I see it with Kilkenny, the city is expanding like mad. There’s a bank of land between Cuffsgrange and the Car Boot that has been sold for residential. The building will continue down to Buckley Park which was well into the country back in the day.
