On the 28th Day of November

We gathered the rifles and bayonets,
and soon left that glen so obscure,
And never drew reins till we halted,
At the far away town of Glenure

Strangers in the night
La deee de di daah
Dooobie dooobie do.

I sang the lonely woods of Upton at my elderly aunts request at a family do last Saturday, don’t know that one though.

How do you know the lonely woods of Upton and not the boys of Kilmichael?

That’s very odd.

Let the moon shine out tonight, along the valley…

The lonely woods of Upton was one of my uncles songs, I’ve heard it hundreds of times and can belt it out now, the patriot game was another favourite of his,
I just listened to the start of the Kilmichael one and I recognise it alright.

Great to see @The_Runt continues to revive this noble thread.

The sun in the west it was sinking,
It was the eve of a cold winters day
When the tans we’d been eagerly waiting
Drove into the spot where we lay
They were out on the road to Kilmichael
And never expecting to stall
When they met with the boys of the column
Who made a clean sweep of them all

This could be the year the thread blossoms.
The centenary celebrations are beckoning.

@The_Runt is alive, huzzah…

Kilmichael not forgotten

thanks Runt… Every year, you’re the only one that remembers.

It’s a shame he doesn’t post here more regularly.

Very noticeable how @ChairmanDan, @Matty_Hislop and @Tim_Riggins go missing on this day every year.
