I don’t know who that is in the picture but it doesn’t look like Jerry McCabe to me.

40 years ago today, 10 June 1981, Sebastian Coe ran the 800 metres in Florence in 1.41.73. A world record that stood for 16 years.

  1. We were due to play a senior hurling league game. The opposition didn’t show up and the referee didn’t show up. We were the only eejits in Dublin not watching Ireland v Russia. Went back to London the following day and watched the Ireland Holland game in a pub in Harrow on the Hill on the Saturday.
