Only the 2022 National Hurling League? Only the Allianz 2022 National Hurling League

Bad weekend for Cork. Bate our the gate last night. Then to add insult to injury, Celtic win at Ibrox

Out for all of Munster.

Cork fans saying they were never going to a match again last night

Interesting
I assume some existing clubs affiliated with the GAA soon after inception. I know the Blarney club in Cork prides itself on being one of the oldest in the country, also home to the Cork captain

My club, Killenaule, was founded in 1885

Meelick Eyrecourt in Galway was 1884.

Taken from an old article that discuses this. I’ve ignored the ones pre 1880

1882 – Kanturk (Cork), Dublin Hurling Club (Dublin),

1883 – Athlone (Roscommon or Westmeath), Burt (Donegal), Inniskeen (Monaghan), Killiomor (Galway), Metropolitan Hurling Club (Dublin),

———————————————

Time Line from 1884 onwards

1884 – Clara (Offaly), Croom (Cork), Meelick Eyrecourt (Galway), Round Towers, Clondalkin (Dublin), South Liberties (Limerick), Tullaroan (Kilkenny)

Where is that article, if you do not mind me asking?

Never knew Killimor was founded a year ahead of M-E. Not far from each other right enough. Makes sense I suppose when you think of the Killimor Rules.

The impact of the Great Famine and Act of Union had combined to send the game into apparently terminal decline by the late 19th century however, and the future founder of the Gaelic Athletic Association, Michael Cusack, claimed in 1883 that “No hurling has been played in Dublin… within the memory of the oldest inhabitant.”

But the game was still being played in pockets around the country – including the regions of East Galway, North Tipperary and West Offaly that bordered the River Shannon.

Cusack founded the Metropolitan Hurling Club in December 1883 and reports of its activities soon reached the village of Killimor, 10km north of Portumna, whose team was considered the best in East Galway.

Its something i came across a few years back.
I have no idea how accurate it is but its interesting

Cahill didnt allow any celebrating after the match last night or today. Fairly joyless really.

Between expectations going through the roof, the pressure they are putting on themselves and the fact they are still Waterford, there has to be a chance it all blows up in their faces in a few weeks.

I hope they can hold it together.

Ill be honest. All joking aside. I do fancy them this year. They went toe to toe with the same Limerick squad at underage. Theres no reason for them not to get there.

Not a problem ye will have for a while.

Iv never, not once, heard any mention or claim that we were the oldest club in the country!

Cork people would be very modest

Kilmallock club was founded in 1885 but was mainly involved in athletics in those days because we had a cinder running track. The first record of a hurling match was playing Ballyhea in 1888.

Tends to change to shhhhh shhhh shhhhhut the fuck up after about 15 mins.

Thanks very much. Had never seen this essay.

Limerick lads trying desperately to crawl into the long grass. It just demonstrates the deep seated insecurity which manifests itself in triumphalism and in Munster rubby.
