What might have been
Never heard of him.
All depends where lads are rating him.
Class act
You could say that about anyone
Generally fairly rated, overrated by Limerick folk
He was as dominant an underage and schools hurler as there was going. Really stood out and dominated games at those levels especially in some really tight games and looked to be a real future star. He was a solid intercounty corner forward but I would have thought his senior performances where a bit of a disappointment given his underage pedigree and reputation.
Maybe he would have thrived on a different limerick team.He was excellent against Clare and Waterford in 2007 but offhand I’d struggle to recall another senior championship match he really dominated or really roasted his man. Not too many in Limerick would rate Niall Moran all that highly but i could probably name half a dozen games off the top of my head where Moran stood up and roasted solid intercounty defenders and put up big scores from play.
Doubt Shaughs would make a list of the top 20 forwards of the 2000s but he was a nice skilful hurler and should be held in high regard for his integral role in the three in a row under 21 side but never really became the player many expected he would at senior.
How would you compare him to say pat Horgan?
This is my tightest ever poll. I’m chuffed.
When I heard of him at Colemans and saw him then for the very good u21 team I thought he was going to be a great player. He wasn’t even a good senior IC hurler imo. Mulcahy even without the Celtic cross has been twice the player.
You couldn’t compare him to Pat Horgan
You couldn’t compare hoggy to any of the current limerick team , as he has no all Ireland.
Neither does Andrew O’Shaughnessy
Has under 21s all ireland medals. Dunno does hoggy have them ? Maybe its horgan , maybe he cant drag them over the line all by himself. Well he’s 31 now done and dusted .
Oooofffttttt
And he’s still a far better player than O’Shaughnessy ever was
True. Though Shaughs never had the chance to play to the age Horgan did, and Horgan was nowhere near the players he is now when he was younger. Compared at the same ages it is a very different debate.
