Deserved lead

Ukraine have put some lovely, precise passing moves together. Goal then came from a long pass over the top but super touch and finish. They well deserve their half time lead. Scotland have been poor and quite disjointed.
They haven’t been great at Hampden recently. A lot of their big games there recently have been damp squibs. Ukraine seem to have a similar enough profile and standard to the Czech team who beat them there 2-0 this time last year. Croatia also took care of them in Hampden last June too.

Wasn’t great for the goal too. Scotland aren’t playing with a particularly high line so they’re quite stretched out seeing they’re playing with the two strikers. Loads of spaces between the lines and Ukraine have found it easy to play through them. They’ve taken off Dykes for Christie here to try to get control of the midfield.

We probably won’t be seeing a Scotland v Wales play-off final to repeat the 1986 World Cup qualifier. Hopefully Ukraine could be the feel good story like Denmark were at the last tournament.
