To be honest it’s an embarrassing day to ne irish in many parts of the world. I wish we could celebrate our Irishness in a more appropriate way. The Perth cops double their Northbridge beat brigade for today.
In a tribute to Irish music on a local radio station today they said they’d play an hour of Irish music. They played 8 U2 songs and Enya’s Orinoco Flow. Lazy cunts The Western Australian view and knowledge on us is hilarious to say the least.
There are probably more than that irish. A massive amount of Irish changed their names and/or denied they were Irish so they would be treated better in Oz. This was particularly more common in QLD & WA where racism & general anti Irish feelings were common.

i wonder what the western aussies say if they came to live in ireland and on australia day/the queen’s birthday or whatever it is they have heard some fella on County Sound in Bandon saying he was going to play an hour of australian music, i suppose you’d get a blast of waltzing matilda and a few acdc songs out of him… i wonder what would they think of that
bit of a cunt here as the work week is sunday-thursday in the middle east or saturday - wednesday in some places depending on how fundamentalist the governement is so it was a normal day in work for me, the day just passed me by really, there is a decent expat popultaion here and there were shenanigans over the weekend allright in the irish pubs,
there is interest in it here allright amoungst the locals, i dont really know what they think of the origions of it, its definitly marketed very well by Guiness and Carlsberg anyhow and i think people are only aware of it really thru the advertising of these companiers.
I had fellas coming up to me in work saying " shouldnt you be drunk somewhere?"… they were probably serious the more i think of it. and maybe they were right
Im going to go traning there in a while anyway, ill show up in the jersey my ould fella wore in the 1983 FAI cup semi final against sligo and try and see if i can take free kicks like he could for a while, probably the best way to commemorate the occasion id say

parade yesterday was great for the kids
the Irish club & Irish bars today were packed ,some great music and Irish dancing on show & the locals and the Irish were all in great mood
Queen st the main street was covered in tricolours & with 1 in 10 Queensalnders being of Irish stock you could see why they made such an effort[/quote]
great stuff mate
im sure you lead the city in a rousing rendition of this belter of a tune:
"The Rovers flag is white and green,
It’s colours draped our glorious team,
And though our Milltown home is gone,
Our flag defiant flows along.
While we are here, you’ll never die,
We’ll keep the green flag flying high,
Shamrock Rovers will never die,
We’ll keep the green flag flying high"
Hail, glorious St. Patrick, dear saint of our isle,On us they poor children bestow a sweet smile; And now thou art high in the mansions above,On Erin’s green valleys look down in thy love.
On Erin’s green valleys, on Erin’s green valleys,On Erin’s green valleys look down in thy love
Ever bless and defend the sweet land of our birth,Where the shamrock still blooms as when thou wert on earth,And our hearts shall yet burn, wherever we roam,For God and St. Patrick, and our native home.
For God and St. Patrick, for God and St. Patrick. For God and St. Patrick and our native home. For God and St. Patrick, for God and St. Patrick,For God and St. Patrick, and OUR NATIVE HOME.
Immense pride there watching that run through of parades around the country, what a great little country we truly are. Enda looked incredibly statesmanlike over in Breezy Point, all in all a great day to be Irish.

There isn’t 30k Aussies living in West Cork Mickee. And they don’t have a great lineage down there either.
A good read about a mostly forgotten battle. 17 men against 1750, over 200 casualties on the British side, 5 Irish, including the leader Michael Malone. Dev was a short distance away with 100 men, and never sent reinforcements.
