Adeleke might bring more % improvement than the others though. McRoary was 7th in her heat with a time of 52.60. Adeleke has recorded a split time of 48.45 before in world relays. To have any realistic chance of medalling they’ll need to probably run a 3.22.

In most countries water polo just like a little side sport for the guys in the swimming teams. In Ireland the team used to train at St James’s Fitness Club, Watling Street, Dublin 8 but have now moved to the National Aquatic Centre. Guys who did’t quite hack it as elite swimmers get into it. It’s not a great spectator sport.
Competitive men’s matches are absolutely filthy. Unless it’s referees very strictly, they kick the fucking shit out of each other. Today it’s cleaned up quite a bit. Ice hockey is probably analogous. In the past you would frequently get blood in the water.
The most famous match of all time happened between Hungary and the Soviet Union right after the Hungarian Revolution and was a bloodbath. The Hungarians made a movie about it. It’s a big sport there.

I’d be delighted if I am wrong on this but I’d be fairly certain that Bundee Aki is more well known across Ireland today than Wiffen or McClenaghan.

I was on a package holiday when I was 15 and they had a game of water polo, I think Irish and Brits against Germans and dutch. I was tiny at 15, a big fat adult German fucker absolutely flattened me the first ball I got. The second one I got he went to do the same and I made to throw it and just stood and kept my elbow cocked up and he absolutely cracked his mouth into it. I was absolutely fucking delighted with myself.
