Mawdsley did unbelievably well to stay that close to the girl who came 5th in the 400m final & Bol, who is a fairly sensational athlete.
Close and must be fairly sickening for them. But, still fairly unheard of for Ireland to be in such a position.

They nearly always swept or close to swept the sprints until the Caribbean nations really stepped up to the plate over the last 20 years. Jamaicans weren’t at the races this time. They seem to be focusing more on the likes of the discus.

The Limerick lady ran a brilliant last leg, nothing more she could do. I think medal was lost on first split.
