As a footballer I loved him. He was the essence of football dreams. But there was a reason why the top clubs didnât break the bank for him.
If there was a World Cup where England should have brought him it was 1990 when he was young and could run around a bit.
His big chance at international level was against Italy at Wembley in a World Cup qualifier, the one where Zola scored and Italy won 0-1. He stunk the place out and Iâm not sure if he was even capped again after that.

McManaman was a phenomenal and somewhat unfulfilled talent [probably in the wong era as an inverted winger). I think I know know a fair bit of what you know about LeTiss and reall everyone has seen the highlights; he probably held himself back but I wasnât talking about his merit. just his significance, Xavi has referenced him. He basically allowed fat slow people to dribbleâŚwait

Waddle was a big fav of mine during his Marseille days. I was a right footer but would constantly practice on the left to replicate Waddleâs step over and cross where I nearly got to the Shane Walsh stage where my left was better than my right especially for kicks off the ground.

Le Tissier is one of the most ICONIC English (he wasnât English) footballers ever. But he fits into the Rodney Marsh/Stan Bowles/Frank Worthington space. Too non-serious.
Thinking about it Iâd actually have McManaman up around number 15 or thereabouts.
England should have picked him more. He scored a volley in a Champions League final for Real Madrid so he did alright with his career in a general sense.
I sometimes wonder how England would have gone in the quarter-final against Italy in Euro 2000 if Philip Neville hadnât conceded a dumbfuck penalty in the last couple of minutes against Romania. Actually this is first time Iâve wondered. McManaman had scored against Portugal and England looked the real deal for about half an hour but then he got injured and King Kev put Dennis Wise in to replace him. Italy would have mopped them.
Ferdinand and Collymore were the two best of that generation of centre forwards behind Shearer. England probably would have qualified for the 1994 World Cup if Ferdinand had been fit for the Holland game in Rotterdam. Heâd done wreck in the previous game against Poland. Shearer played in that but wasnât match fit, he was only back 10 days from an ACL.
Collymore could and should have been better than Haaland. His career was a waste given his talent. At his best he was frighteningly good.

I vaguely remember one story about Le Tissier.
I think it was when he got selected for his first English cap. He rang his brother to tell him. His brother then rang the local radio station and announced the team.
It was Le Tissierâs last English cap.
Le Tissier got 8 caps.
Iâll have to try dig it out tomorrow.
