Depends on who you ask. The Brexit thing was what made the trade commission role the hot seat in Europe at the moment. The counter argument to that was that Barnier was doing most of the heavy lifting there. The the U.S. thing may become less important if Trump gets dumped on his hole.
We were arguably given it to annoy the British. Unlikely we’ll be given it again but who knows. A friendly voice in that portfolio was going to be useful as part of Brexit but hard to say how much we will lose now.
More interesting thing from all this is the precedent it sets in Ireland. Anybody caught out from now on will have little wriggle room.
