Phil Hogan - We'll miss him now he's gone

He’d sue the superglue company if the inevitable happened

What brought Big Phil down was Paddy wanted a head to appease the massed ranks of curtain twitchers and screaming Nualas. Champ and Leo told Frau Ursula that Big Phil had to go.

The reason people have moved on from Golfgate is because there were heads served on a platter as a result of it - Calleary, Buttimer, O’Rourke, Hogan. That absolutely had to happen for any sort of general trust to be retained in politics in this country. MicheĆ”l Martin realised that straight away. Varadkar realised it too. You see the result of it not happening in Britain.

Seamus Woulfe was the one who brazened it out and the minority of the general public who actually know who he is will hold it against him for the rest of career, though I’m sure the salary he’s on will make that tolerable for him.

But overall, there was seen to be accountability in the political and media sphere.

Fintan O’Toole was correct when he said that there is more accountability in politics in Ireland than in the UK.

The political party in Ireland where there has not been accountability as regards taking the piss with rules/guidelines/whatever during the pandemic has been, predictably, Sinn FĆ©in. They decided on a massive show of strength which was a complete two fingers to pandemic control measures. Complete double standards. given how they howled after Clifden. But sure what’s new.

Some fucking neck on O’Rourke

There’ll be wigs on the green when the public hear about this

Radio one there now.

That is some thread. The cunt wasn’t transparent about his movements all along and make the EC and Govt statements on this look ridiculous when further details came out regarding his travel(s).

The sense of entitlement and that he is in some way wronged is so thick it’d make you vomit.

There’s no way anyone could ever take one word he says at face value.

If he’d appeared contrite and in any way sorry to the hur the caused people then he could have soaked up Board positions around the country. He’s poison now.

Is he not now an advisor/consultant to some giant conglomerate where his intimate knowledge of the workings and machinations of the EU are rewarding him to the tune of about 250k a year? Appointment made about Sept last. Phil won’t starve…

Googled that and see he’s working for DLA Piper - a massive international law firm.

Grand. I knew they weren’t a Mickey Mouse outfit like the League of Ireland anyhow.

Assume RTE will swoop to offer Sean O Rourke something, ( a few documentaries maybe) to prevent BBC snapping him up

Spot on, he had to resign after he was caught out lying to Ursula a few times. Entirely his own fault and nothing to do with anyone else.

I guess if he was honest at the beginning he’d still be in the job.

The media storm was so great Phil had to ā€˜go into hiding’ in Portugal for 6 months. The poor divil.

Global political heavyweights like Big Phil are always in demand on the international stage.

It was very shortsighted of Paddy running telling tales to Frau Ursula and hounding Big Phil out of the top Trade portfolio.

Paddy took it as an opportunity to have a kick at an unpopular Government with Phil as the stooge in the firing line.
Wrong on many counts. Look how this impending crisis with Russia has mushroomed.
Phil would have nipped that in the bud from his position as Trade Commissioner. We’ll be sorry yet.

Doubtful I’d say but you never know. He was obviously lying for a reason.

Big Phil would have sorted out that Russia/Ukraine business months ago.

He couldn’t even sort out Kilkenny and Ferrybank.
