Popular or critically acclaimed bands/artists that you hate

So was their first. Unfortunately for them they have breached the popularity threshold, which means Farmer has to hate them.

Derek and the Dominoes is not Eric Clapton though. Same way I can rate the Jam but hate Weller.

Those lads lost their muse a long time ago. I dislike how they are wheeled out as rock royalty when they can no longer write a song to save their lives. Strong argument to die at 27 or break up and preserve the legacy.

Some bands arrive and in a couple of years of recorded output there is breath-taking testimony to an evolution in sound and ambition that lesser bands elevated to the same status would take twenty years to construct within the dithering muddle of a hit and miss career.
Fleetwood Mac: They have some good songs alright but overall I couldn’t be arsed.

Pink Floyd: Certainly don’t hate them but are overrated in my view.

David Bowie: See Pink Floyd.

Not a surprise a lot of these bands/artists are English. Style over substance. A narrative is constructed that ignores most of their careers being production of dross.

Disagree on all three, though Floyd turned shit after 1979 and Bowie hasn’t done much (if anything) in the last 25 years

I explained my point on the Artic Monkeys and it was perfectly logical and devoid of any sense of snobbery.

Fuck off you cunt with your shite music taste.

ok, i’ll take another listen.

I spent a summer moving furniture with a cunt from Canada who had Counting Crows on in the van every fucking day.

Bands are like old school heavy weight boxers. They need to retire when they are still at the top of their game.

They get old, they lose the hunger, the muse. But they continue and chase the money and end up destroying a perfect record.

I was in a band and we broke up before we ever played a gig or recorded a song. In fact we had one proper rehearsal. That was enough and we knew it and got out before that perfection was destroyed with agents, merchandise, fans and selling out to try and be popular. I don’t regret it for a moment but I know I would have regretted playing on.

Counting Crows - Round Here live is a classic song - all twelve minutes of it

In fairness Fleetwood Mac went from a blues band to mainstream. Some of the early stuff with Peter Green is good and Rumours is an excellent album.

Bowie was more or less done after Ziggy.

I like Pink Floyd, but you are entitled to you opinion.

Muse.

Same as that, a dickhead I lived with in first year in college played nothing else for the entire year. Fucking Muse.

Throw Long December into the mix as well. Actually I’m off to listen to Long December now.

Fair enough if you don’t like them. They are one of the best bands since the turn of the century though.

You really need to stop trotting out the “I have better taste in music than you” line though. You’re not a teenager anymore.

Have you heard the song (not the album) “August and Everything After” - rare track that was supposed to be title track

I think we are all in agreement that Hooty and the Blowfish are a very popular/critically aclaimed band that nobody hates.

I should say that my forum name is derived from the band name - The band was named The Alterior Motive - my mate who was the drummer named the band and couldn’t spell Ulterior. Once it was named we had to stick with it and say it was an intentional spelling error - probably how The Beatles were named I suppose.

If it was the list of “popular or critically acclaimed bands that you never really got in to” the board would need new servers

Mr Jones by Counting Crows is one of the worst songs I have ever heard in my view. I didn’t like the Joni Mitchell cover one they did either. They are the only songs by them I know, or want to know.

I like the band and hate those songs

Cant you see that I was taking the piss and being deliberately contradictory?

The follow up to Rumours - Tusk is also an excellent record.
