what’s the first ireland game you can rememeber?
mine is a 2-2 draw with Belgium vaguley - maybe 1986?- were beligium in our 1988 EC group?. the coouldnt have been
i really got into it in 1988, Euro 88 was my breakthru moment, i had the yellow wallchart from the evening echo and all- first game Italy 1 West Germany 1

I was aware of the Bulgaria away and Belgium home matches in April but did not watch them.

My first Ireland match to attend was the 1-0 victory over Brazil in May when Brady scored. Went to the Luxembourg qualifier in September when we won it late. Wasn’t at the 2-0 victory over Bulgaria in October. Watched the first half an hour of Bulgaria-Scotland but then had to go to recorder practice. Got home to find out Mackay had put us through.

The picture there is Brady’s sending off against Bulgaria. Brady was taken off against West Germany in September '89. Bulgaria was the last time he was a genuine first choice player.
