Post Recession Tiger Largesse and Excess

Media City is like Grand Canal Doc if it was ten times the size. Grand buildings, each looking fine, but together a dull mass of blandness, all occupied by boring chain stores and with large open spaces that are actually just completely useless squares of land with a few benches in the middle

That was my point mate. Salford is a kip, but it still looks nicer than whatever photo of Dublin city was being frotted over above. Riggins thinks a view of the hills makes it like Singapore.
It is largely traffic free though which is a bonus.

I was agreeing with you. Its the way the World is gone now. All these places look the same. I was in Malmo at the weekend in an area where theyā€™ve redeveloped the city around an ice hockey stadium, and it looked exactly the same as the area around the Olympic stadium in London. Except on a smaller scale. The shopping centre could have been Dundrum. Iā€™d say 80% plus of the stores were stores you would see in Dublin. How very boring

In fairness, Iā€™m not a great fan of London, but the view back across the river from near the shard (a stunning building) of the tower with all the modern skyscrapers behind it is lovely.

You never told us that. How did you get on?

He changed his signature he had to sign so many documents when his empire was saved by emergency legislation that introduced examinerships to Ireland in 1990

The state leases buildings / offices off Larry Goodman? Sure there couldnā€™t be anything at all wrong with that whatsoever

Itā€™s quite an iconic sky line now.

Itā€™s a nice walk actually.

I didnā€™t comment on the render, just pointed out what was going on in that part of Dublin. Trinity and the Custom House are bland to you apparently.

Calm down dear. Trinity and the custom House. Now who built them I wonder?

Grand Canal Dock is a very vibrant area now. The Square is always busy. The Theatre and Covid (ironically) have made the area.

The new ultra bland spot is the North Docks but thatā€™ll come good in a few years as more and more development happens.

Yes lots more drab blocks will really enhance the place, along with three Cafe Neroā€™s, a oret a manger and a pizza hut.

What relevance does it have who built them?

I merely commented that you seem to put them on the same level as Salford.

The College Square development is nothing special (but is going to shock people with the scale of it) but the City Arts Blocks will be striking.

SIPTU should be fined for leaving Liberty Hall the way it is.

You donā€™t live in Dublin so have no concept of what these places are actually like.

GCD used to be a fairly soulless area but now it isnā€™t. You can have your own view of the buildings but thatā€™s it.

Big fan of GCD in the summer. The locals love to jump in the canals.
When asked how the water was they replied ā€˜Real wet n everythingā€™

Thereā€™s a thread on Skyscraper City about it which is where I got the pic.

It looked pretty good when it was originally built before the windows were blown out going by photos.

Could be done up again, SIPTU clearly canā€™t be bothered to spend money on it. They tried to get it demolished 10 years ago.

Oul Rimmer is in full meltdown that someone described the Dublin cityscape he posted above as ā€œblandā€, which it most certainly is. He then resorted two but but two buildings the Brits built. Salford is nicer than Dublin as horrific bland glass middle management prepack blocks have been thrown on top of one another, but he thinks more of the same. There hasnā€™t really been a nice looking big building built in Dublin since the Brits got thrown out.
