Martin Tyler has left Sky Sports.
Looks like he’s being replaced by Peter Drury.
Unpopular opinion: Martin Tyler was an excellent commentator. He had to play up the Sky schmaltz and all that but he was essentially old school.
I wouldn’t be a huge fan of Peter Drury.

He’s a bit like Ger Canning as in the enthusiasm seems to be gone out of his voice

Perhaps it was time for him to move on but he built up an excellent body of work over the years. A sort of jaded scepticism in a commentator’s voice can be a great quality and he developed it.
His commentaries on Serie A from 1990 to 1992 which were broadcast weekly on Network 2 were superb, none more so than Inter Milan v Sampdoria in the 1990/91 game which decided the title in Sampdoria’s favour.
Drury strikes me as somebody who is always looking for the pre-prepared soundbyte to go viral on Twitter.
I’d have preferred Bill Leslie as Tyler’s replacement. I think he’s a very solid commentator.

Yeah I never heard of him before Villa but he looks much better than I was led to believe .
