Realistically speaking Southampton need a rebuild. When you look around the league, even the bottom half they have easily the most inexperienced and imho poorest 1st 11.
That wont change in 2023. Relegation might help them if they can keep their younger players and attract a few journeymen
The sell to buy clubs like Southampton and Liverpool really struggling this year.

With Evertonās backing theyād surely bounce straight back up like Newcastle did in 2009/10 and 2016/17. West Ham under Big Sam in 2011/12 another one that springs to mind albeit they went up through the play-offs. Iāve heard some people say it might be the best thing to happen to Everton in years although Iām not sure Iād vouch for that.
Everton would take a shit on nearly every player they have if they went down.
Gordon is probably their only asset worth a fuck and heād be gone on the cheap.
In 16/17, Newcastle were somewhat lucky in that they were able to sell two players for big money (and a few others for decent sums) and then used that to fund signing loads of Championship-proven players. It got them promoted but they were then saddled with some very average players in the Premiership.
Do Everton have the same saleable assets? I would also guess that Evertonās wages are generally quite high, could be a balls trying to get rid of some of them.

The club havent experienced relegation from the Premier League. Gordon and Pickford would up sticks in June.
Newcastle went down twice but by and large kep the guts of the squad together both times. West Ham was the same.
I have it in my head theyāre the club with the longest unbroken run in the tip flight after arsenal
Id snap up that Onana fella for utd sharpish. Only 21. Looks a serious prospect

Just looking at Burnley, a lot of people might have thought theyād struggle, but it almost looked as if they were preparing for relegation.
Had a lot of players coming to the end of their contracts. Lost Mee & Tarkowski on free transfers but the likes of Stephens, Lennon, Vydra, Pieters all had their contracts up. They managed to get the bones of Ā£70m for their four biggest assets- Pope, McNeil, Cornet & Collins.
So they were actually able to do a rebuild, like Newcastle were. Cleared out pretty much their entire squad, held onto fellas like Brownhill, Rodriguez, Cork, Roberts & Barnes who have the attitude & ability to succeed in the Championship. Got a new manager. And then were smart with their signings- 5 loans in: 3 key players from Premier League clubs and Kompany brought 5 players in from Belgium too for extremely cheap, some of whom have turned out to be some of the best players in the division.
Ā£50m profit while signing 15 new players and keeping a bit of your experienced core isnāt bad.

Kompany is well respected by agents throughout the game and people are trying to get young lads in there by all accounts. Heās well got at City too obviously so has access to the premium from that loan pool
That city centre half that was at Burnely is supposed to be really good. Harwood baels or something

Harwood-Bellis, yeah, heās looked excellent any time Iāve seen him.
Muric in goal from City too, not a bad replacement for Pope, and they got Maatsen the left-back from Chelsea on loan.

Theyāll walk back up I feel.
DCL, Pickford, Onana, Patterson and Mykolenko would fetch a nice bit too Iād imagine. Be interesting to see what the likes of Tom Davies and Dwight McNeill would do or where theyād end up. Demarai Gray has been decent enough, youād imagine heād get a Premier League move too.

DCL hardly played in 2 years and i donāt think any of the big boys will take him.
Onana is signed until 2027. Theyāll build around him
Gordon is free in '25 and is due a new deal, theyāll have to flog him and chelsea were already sniffing. They should probably flog him now and get a bit more if anybody is desperate
I havenāt seen that much of Everton this season but apparently Gordon has been fairly poor. I donāt know if theyāll ever get as much as they would have the summer just gone (it would have been a crazy signing by Chelsea).

I donāt see what that fella has at all either. Got a few goals and got the head turned fairly quickly. Would be another Ross Barkley type signing for Chelsea youād imagine.
They have to take the risk on young english lads now and its probably easier let them develop somewhere else and buy them young and hope they still have value at the end of contract. Like City and Sterling

Alex Iwobi has been their stand out player this season according to some of their fans. They may not get their full Ā£40m back but he will be sought after if they go down.

Big game for the Premier League tonight. If City donāt get all 3 points we can all take it as fact that uniteds resurgence has made every single club shit their togs.

Yeah a changed man since they started playing him in central midfield apparently. A smaller scale version of the rejuvenation Joelinton has had at Newcastle since his switch to CM.
