Price of a Pint

I don’t want to get sidetracked here and dig a hole as being a publican sympathiser, but the amount of pubs closing down these days, and the overall quietness of town at the weekend means that they probably need to do all they can to maximise revenue, even by bending the rules if necessary. I like the idea of embarrassing the publican though, at least in some cases.

I wouldn’t normally be 1 for drinking bottles when I’m out, but I was in a marquee that had a bar put into the corner of it, they were selling Guinness and Carlsberg in plastic glasses, so I figured a bottle would be the safest option (I didn’t see a glass washer anywhere).

If you get a bottle in The Academy (formally Spirit) they pour it into a plastic glass, defeats the purpose totally:rolleyes:.

Not if it’s 3 quid a bottle it doesn’t

Plastic glasses are an abomination. Aside from the fact it’s an oxymoron (which I’m well aware is the real issue here), it warms your pint something desperate, just doesn’t feel right in your hand and due to the diminshed structural integrity of your drinking vessel, makes spillage far more likely. Agreed bottles are a far superior option.

You always take two plastic glasses with your pint, the extra glass absorbs the extra heat from your hand and adds vital support to the other ‘glass’, Watch The Break.

I actually enjoy drinking beer out of plastic glasses due to the psychological effect drinking from such a vessel produces. It reminds the user of times when they were in the middle of a field in Hampshire watching Pulp live.

I disagree, and I can’t share your flashbacks.

Fucking pulp…

Quality band.

Agree with you there Runt.

In the middle of the night
It feels alright
But then tommorow morning
Ohhh, then you come down

I half-agree with SS - I really don’t mind drinking bottles poured into plastic cups, but if I take a slug from a plastic cup in the Academy, it honestly doesn’t take me back to Super Furry Animals at Glastonbury 1999, or the student bar in UCD circa 2001. If only it actually were that easy to get the good times rolling again

*sigh

I don’t plastic glasses at a sporting event or a concert where people could be hurt by the glass, but just cause it’s a busy night in the pub doesn’t justify using them.

Does anyone else tend to drink far faster than is good for you when drinking from plastic glasses. Just thinking about it there and some of the drunkest nights iv had have been with plastic glasses

That’s cause you spill half of it coming from the bar and when you grab it you spill more cause of the squeezeyness of it.

Actually, Dan you being the legal expert, isn’t it against the law to serve a pint in a glass that doesn’t have a stamp on it from the government saying that it is a pint? Most of those pint glasses could be just half litres.

I’m stunned that no one here has yet thought to mention the cost of plastic glasses to the environment. Won’t someone think of the children?

Iv been called a lot of things on here but I wont have that.

Get MGG on, she’s old enough to be a legal expert
