Prime time tonight

Actually the most frightening element about this whole thing , I believe that as a species, we will not have learned one solitary lesson out of this. Yeah sure we’ll get the usual crap about how this must "never be allowed happen again and every life is sacred " bullshit from the powers that be and their might be some token gestures here and there. But champ will still be on his way to meet obiden on paddy’s day next year. Trump will be still harping on about how he won the election. The banks will still be cunts and @Bandage will still be giving out about something or other

While that was a decent attempt at some form of debate last night it’s really just an exercise in nibbling around the edges. 5 minutes on a topic like that is essentially pointless and gave Neale Richmond a very easy out to say “oh it’s too complex an issue”.

I doubt you’d find a single government TD willing to sit down for an hour podcast to unpack the whole thing. You wouldn’t have that much trouble finding someone to oppose them. Be it, Ewan Mckenna or John McGuirk or whoever.

It’d never ever happen. Which is a shame because the public deserves better discourse.

Sending a hateful and terribly unlikeable prick like McGurk out to bat for any side is hardly fair, cunts like him don’t deserve a soapbox for anything.

Can’t agree on who to have the debate so let’s just not talk about it.

Was it me or was Kneel really struggling to lay a glove on McGuirk last night possibly because he was against someone who hates SF more than him?
He couldn’t trot out the pre prepared sound bytes about Bobby Storey etc.

They couldn’t get at him because all he did was call them out on their hypocrisy/lies/bias.

Neal was in the ha’penny place once he brought a birthday cup cake along to studio for John to enjoy for his birthday. John referenced Neal’s generosity on twitter last night post show.

I’d say like a lot of people I normally wouldn’t agree with McGuirk on much/anything but he was impressive last night
Poor Neale was floundering all over the place

As McGuirk touched on, we have a history of attacking protestors in any form in Ireland if the establishment aren’t on board. We are an extremely conservative country and most people take their cue from RTE, who support the government… So it’s an ongoing circle.

He pointed out a few lovely bits of hypocrisy tho… It’s extremely rare RTE let a voice like that on but you’re right in that all a government lackey had to do is through out a few moral sound bites and it’s usually enough to sedate the average person.

I could be dreaming here but I could have sworn the media were much tougher on the government during the noughties.

Certain elements. TV 3 via Vincent Browne used to grill politicians, so much so that some refused to go back on.

RTÉ has always been a soft touch

Rte have been throughing out moral soundbites throw out the pandemic

You’re correct

Oh look. It’s the spellchecker police

But the politicians of that era were of a different calibre that the current bunch of head-nodding soft-cocks. Look, take a random example from the parties, Jack Fucking Chambers, Eoghan Gimme the shovel Murphy, Up the Ra Cullinane and Ged the head Nash.
These need to be measured against Bertie, McCreevey, Big Phil, Noonan and Brother Rabbitte all of whom were well able to get down and brawl.

The current incumbents of Dáil Éireann are basically Intermediate or Junior A standard, some sliding into oblivion and a few other scramblers who think if they put in the hard yards (RTE cameos) they’ll get the nod eventually. Doesn’t bear thinking about.
