Whatever supports exist are means tested, designed to keep the show on the road only. Some shops are doing very well out of them and to some they mean sfa as they have to pass on, landlords banks etc. Any extra payments to staff is cash it cannot be direct via supports or risk losing PUP. The only outstanding payments that have been halted are Rates but there is a sting in the tail fully expected there.
It is true that a week in July/August is worth 3/4 in Oct/Nov, anyone with an even low end appreciation of supply and demand will grasp that. In other words yes, the smaller shops in particular, the SMEs rely on that Summer buffer to get them through the tougher months. There is a phrase oft quoted here, āIt cannot always be Summerā. Anyone involved in Irish hospitality know how true this is better than anyone.
It is also true that some places have never been doing better under the current restrictions. The footpath lottery and basic supply and demand again key here. Expecting the VFI/LVA to be INTO/TUI is somewhat unrealistic
No doubt there will be a few unscrupulous establishments taking issue with Nphets advice. In fact a cursory stroll through any town centre in Ireland would suggest more than a few. God only knows whats happening out the shtix. Its almost like the guards themselves were struggling with Nphets advice
I was drinking at the bar proper for the first time tonight, neighbouring village with a canopy youād buy in Lidl out the front. 10 lads inside at the bar.
I feel for bars in cities who cannot adopt this practice.
I was playing in a golf event in West of Ireland last weekend. One establishment took no issue allowing a load of Tipperary fellas in to watch the game. One hand washes the other.
The only local pub currently open has said itās going to remain outside only for the moment as he doesnāt think heāll be able to consistently implement the new rules.
Thereās also no sign of any of the other pubs in the town opening today.
Lot of pubs keeping schtum on social media about their reopening indoors over fear of vaccine discrimination nuts calling them out on it or making a show at their premises
The heavy set lad from Prime Time Investigates will be prowling around pubs up and down the country with his vaccine cert, desperate to catch people out who donāt ask for it.
