My understanding is that the whole shebang is opening on the 29th, brah but I get all my news 2nd hand these days so that should be verified.

I must have a thousand euro spent on poxy weights to use at home but it’s still nowhere near as good. I had a lovely routine going.

Gyms and gym goers were incredibly hygiene conscious, particularly once COVID became known. They also don’t have too many over 85s with chest problems come through the door. Considering this and how beneficial they are to the health of the nation I would suggest they should be open before pubs or McDonald’s

He’s a wild one.

Is there anything to be said for an age restriction on pubs - only under 50’s allowed. So even if there is an outbreak the risk is dramatically reduced.

I can’t imagine there’ll be much push-back from the over 50’s seeing as they know the huge sacrifices the country has made - essentially on their behalf.

There are many issues with that:

  1. Over 50s are not the at risk group. Over 70s/75s are.
  2. Banning a certain age group is never going to be enforceable. It’s also discriminatory. We didn’t do the lockdown in their name either - it was for the entire population.
  3. The majority of pubs‘ daily clientele are over 50s. Regulars who have kept it going for years. Also if they are removed then pubs revenue goes down.

Well I was making the suggestion with tongue firmly in cheek but I suppose if you’re going to get all po-faced about it:

Of course it’s possible and enforceable. If we can keep people out of the pubs below a certain age we can easily do it above. Your “discriminatory” argument is fairly hilarious - we all bow before the altar of public health now. If public health wills it - it is so.

The revenue argument is also fairly weak - it may have passed you by but there’s been a bit of a health scare recently that has resulted in a weaker than normal quarter for most pubs revenue.

Overall, I’m concerned from your response that you are constrained by the orthodoxy of the past - that you are viewing everything through the prism of the way it used to be. It has all changed - changed utterly and you’ll need a growth mindset to flourish in our new post-apocalyptic world.

You can’t stop any group of people from going into a pub that are legally able to drink. I would imagine it would take legislation to do so. Particularly those from an age group not even at risk.

Asking a 51 year old for Id

“Not tonight mate”

To prove that his age is LESS THAN it actually is.

Where’s the legislation requiring €9 meals or specifying social distance requirements or the size of groups allowed in pubs?

Because such things are relatively minor. Stopping over 50’s for no apparent reason is discriminatory.

“No apparent reason”. Complete horseshit.

You can argue the age limit but the reason is fairly fucking obvious. Why else are the pubs shutdown?

Over 50s?

Yes - no apparent reason.

I might have to forge an ID once again in my life.

Memorise your new date of birth.

I know a fella to sort that for you.

Well clearly the risk is higher for over 50’s than under 50’s. The risk increases all the time with age. Do you disagree with that?

So the reason is fully apparent. Now you may not agree with the reason or a proposed solution but don’t doubt the facts.

Would you be more comfortable if it was over-70’s excluded. I mean already there is over-70’s shopping hours and park hours etc.
