That’s too time consuming.
Have a bunch of stuff on a laptop I want to store externally but the USB ports on the laptop are disabled to most devices so my external drive won’t work. Any opinions on dropbox or google drive? Signed up for free option on both. Is 1 better than the other?
This is fast becoming a tech support site.
Drop Box will do the job
I use Dropbox (2GB) alot and it’s the business.
I think Microsoft Skydrive has a lot more storage (7GB) but I can’t vouch for it’s ease of use.
Google Drive is only launched a week and supposedly has a few issues to iron out but again offers much more storage than Dropbox (5GB).
Dropbox is the one to use at the moment but Google Drive might surpass it when it gets up and running properly. Very good of Google to offer to keep hold of everyone’s data like that.
Is there a handy way to get extra storage for free on dropbox. I got 2gb for free when I signed up. Was given an extra 500mb then as apparently I was referred by someone. If I upload something from mobile I think I get another 500mb. Any other easy ways as not bothered paying for it just yet?
Referring friends is the easiest way, I’d imagine Dropbox will also have to try and counter Google Drive by uppping the free storage quota in the coming months.
You often see ads for more free storage. I’d say if you follow them on twitter or something you might pick up extra space, that type of thing.
This is the site that just keeps on giving. Thanks chaps
If you are uploading photos to Dropbox it seems as though you can avail of an extra 3GB free.
Can anyone recommend any decent software for ripping copyrighted DVDs?
I want to back everything up as soon as I can and don’t mind spending a small bit of money on something I can rely on.
Why not just download them. Would probably be easier.
Have about 80/90 DVDs that I want to put on the media drive (Screenplay) that I have.
I’d prefer to use the monthly downloading limit getting stuff I don’t have already. Legally of course
I have used Any DVD and Clone DVD in the past, they both work together, one gets through the copyright issue basically and the other one is used to burn the dvd. Long time since I used them but I got both software off a torrent site for nothing. They were normal DVDs not Bluray I was copying though so no idea if they work on Bluray.
I was copying the DVDs myself to DVD so not sure if it is ideal for your purpose to store on a media player, just spotted that’s what you wanted there.

If I have a laptop (Dell Insprion 6400 on Windows XP) connected to the Internet through a mobile USB dongle thingy, is it possible for me to turn the device into a wireless hotspot so other devices like my phone / iPad could connect to the internet through it?
I know you can do that with your phone.
I’ve never done it with a laptop though.
I think you would need to get a special “mi-fi” device from Vodafone to allow that.
I’d say it is possible alright, but I am unsure as to how feasible it would be :strokechin:
What you could do is ditch the 3G dongle and get a tethering bundle from your data provider on your phone?
Depending on the download limits etc.
