Question for the techies

I found this but it only seems to work when connected through LAN rather than Wifi / Dongle so not sure it would work.

Might just be easier to buy one of those wireless dongles that multiple devices can connect to instead of the USB ones.

Would anybody recommend a 40" TV? Don’t need 3D or Smart TV, but want to get one that’s fairly good. A lot of people say Samsung are probably the best at moment, any opinions?

Have a 40" Samsung for 5 years.
Have a 37" LG for 3 years as well.

No complaints about either.

Samsung do a decent smart TV, I just got a 46 one.

But if you dont need smart or 3D then DID do a budget Hanspree model which might do the job.

Avoid plasma, LCD or LED at this stage is the market norm AFAIK… http://cp12-eu.stablehost.com/~thefreek/board/public/style_emoticons/default/smiley-stroking-chin.gif

Yea, with a 40" LED LG you won’t go far wrong watching ball sports. But remember your picture is only as good as what’s being fed into it.

You could just a USB Wifi Router mac…

and plug your 3g dongle

Does anybody know what the term “Uncongested broadband” actually means. As far as I can see its just a stupid buzzword that somebody invented.

It’s like “next generation” broadband. Next fuckin generation!

What a shit company Eircom is, use our next generation broadband but we can only go up to 8mb. Would ya fuck off Eircom.

We had UPC in Donnybrook.
We moved to Ballsbridge and couldn’t get UPC there.
So we had Magnet for 18 months. Magnet was decent. Nothing spectacular.

UPC upgraded in our area so we switched back. 100MB and it goes like the clappers.

I have that 100MB broadband too and it’s terrific. Makes the other areas of UPC’s service tolerable. There are big changes apparently coming to the service in Q1 2013 though. There’s a new box coming out which is being launched in the Netherlands first and it looks like an excellent upgrade. Video somewhere on the upc netherlands website if you’re arsed searching for it.

I have 50mb with UPC since December. It is very good. I also got the old basic cable package of 17 channels with it which was a nice bonus. Super reliable for Xbox live

Switched router earlier to a zyxel model. AirPlay didn’t appear to be working and soon discovered that the piece of shit doesn’t support Bonjour protocols. Off to get a Time capsule over the weekend.

i have to laugh… I am in the middle of a row with Eircom about them letting me upgrade my line from 1 mb to 2mb… they reckon the line cant carry it and I know for a fact it can carry 1.8mb at least.

100mbs would drive the laptop out through the gable wall.

Having issues with a samsung tv, keeps turning itself off and back on. anyone have any experience of this?

Yeah, when I set the off and on timers

Same thing happens with my Samsung Galaxy phone-the dullard in the O2 shop reckons it’s a software issue.

Ya need a decent connection for Xbox live. I remember the unhappy days of trying to play games on xbox live using 1mb eircom. :frowning: Life has been so much better since getting the 30mb from upc. Looking for to Halo now in the next week or so.

brilliant.
