nearing 2 years myself. Haven’t missed them
Is it over 2 years since we played golf?? Good grief
june 20, so not quite the two years I thought.
So they will be refusing to sell adults a pack of smokes? Lads that is all sorts of wrong regardless of the health implications for the individual this is a dangerous path to total nanny state control, drink will be called for after it, porn, red meat. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Relax.
Smoking is a disgusting habit so it’s great news.
The way they are going about it is disgusting, if you can’t see the longterm threat with regards freedom of choice then you are blind. “Anyone born after 2020 will not be permitted to drive a vehicle with an engine size of over 1 litre in an effort to improve road safety.”
The golf course doesn’t count. Or the races
Next thing you’ll be saying cheating on the missus when on a stag doesn’t count.
You rugger lads
There doesn’t have to be freedom of choice to smoke cigarettes if you haven’t even been born yet or you’ve never had one, I’d say I’d be gutted if one of my kids became a smoker,
The civil liberties line is bullshit, you do not need to be given the choice in this case
what about cigars? People do that for enjoyment or to celebrate a big occasion, is that illegal too?
what about when they decide to stop vodka or gin production because it’s too high proof.
Alcohol is as bad as tobacco for damage to the population, should that be illegal?
There will still be a demand for cigarettes, it won’t be regulated or taxable now, it’ll be done on the black market where quality will be worse and health issues greater.
It may work, but to just pretend it’s a silver bullet is naïve, and to allow it happen opens the door for the government to decide what else they can make illegal, too much sugar, no more, no more alcohol etc. It does raise questions
I don’t envisage a big black market for cigarettes once the current gaspers die off or see sense.
But I’m not really interested in an argument on this, they’re pointless, they’re not even considered cool anymore for God sake,
As far as I’m concerned NZ should be commended for even trying this
Without even researching it, I would love to hear what people were saying about Ireland when we brought the smoking ban into the workplace. You can be sure the likes of “that will never work” or “no-one will adhere to that” was said by the Healy-Rae’s of the world. But it was done.
Spot on. Coke/heroin/weed etc are all illegal and widely available. And widely used. And prohibition has wreaked havoc on societies around the world.
is nobody smoking in ireland anymore?
banning it in indoor venues where many people would get caught up in other peoples smoke wouldnt really be the same though as an outright ban on smoking wherever you want. I’ve no issue with any measures to ban smoking, but this is like many other things, people act like children. If you tell them they cant have something or have to do something, they will do the exact opposite for no other reason than to be against it.
There is a big black market in cigarettes though I thought? You’d often hear of lorries in Ireland caught with loads of them or whatever. And thats only to get cheap shit, never mind if they were outright banned here.
there is already a black market for them because of the taxation and cost of them. the largest demographic of smokers in Ireland is 25-35 range.
Or if you tell them they have to do something they go ahead and do it without any questions asked for no other reason than to be good little boys and girls.
yes, the vast majority of people where this law will be implemented wont ever smoke for the sake of their health. And others will do it regardless because they wont listen to authority. If you want to belittle them for not asking questions and being good little boys and girls fire right ahead. I’m not sure why a ban on smoking would be a catalyst for people to question it and be mocked for not smoking.
Not relevant in fairness,
All hypothetical obviously but it’s hard to imagine anything other than a tiny tiny percentage of young adults taking up the habit in the NZ circumstances
I think it’s a great thing, why does anybody need the right to have easy access to cigarettes, governments have the right to implement measures to protect its citizens,
