Blessed to have seen him play. The goat.
He will fall out of the top 100 now as a result of not competing at RG.
37 in a few weeks, dogged by persistent injuries. It’s hard to see him mounting a comeback again.
I’m just utterly privileged that I have witnessed him in his pomp over a 20 year period, becoming the greatest sportsman to ever string up a racquet.
He’s been on borrowed time for a number of years now. 2022 was such a special year, the greatest comeback of all time against Medvedev in the AO final followed up by the destruction of Djokovic in RG with a zombie foot and beating Fritz at Wimbledon when he was badly injured and had to withdraw after. That just exemplifies the man to a tee.
Tennis will never ever replace Nadal, there’s not another player who has been so superhuman and fragile at the same time. He is the common denominator in the greatest matches of all time, be it with Federer, Djokovic, Medvedev - nobody has the ability to excite and enthrall like Nadal has done.
Every factor in the game, from the calendar being stacked toward big serving hard court players and managing a body that has being battling chornic injuries all his career, it is truly amazing.
Just imagine the tennis season had two grand slams on clay and not two on hard courts, just imagine he was able to stay injury free. There would not be anyone in sight of him.
Thank you Gladiator.
The saddest day in sport since Totti retired as a footballer.
Very sad day for sports fans around the world.
The greatest of all time has confirmed his retirement.
The Wimbledon win in 08 against dark forces was one of the greatest moments of the 21st century.
There’s a lot of clubs and countries lucky he never played soccer. Would’ve been hard to see Madrid or Spain beaten with him.
