When Gary Kirby steps out of the line we’ll all shout “he’s behind you”

Where is Willie o Connor on that team? What a sham. He’d be well ahead of Dunne and Hanamy anyway whatever about the rest.

Seriously no John Leahy !

Just the 5 finals he played in during the 90s.

Teddy McCarthy must have at least as much claim as Coleman.

Colin Lynch would be close to the team based on what he did between 1997 and 1999 alone.

Tony Browne was hurler of the year in 1998 so wouldn;t be far away either but has little else in the 90s to go on.

Adrian Fenlon was decent but I wouldn’t be having him near a team of the decade.

Pilkington made a more rounded and comprehensive contribution than any of the above here so should be in it.

Certainly ahead of Coleman anyway. If they HAD to have a Galway lad, Joe Rabbitte maybe?

Nowt wrong with Hanamy there.

I wouldn’t have any Galway player near it. There were only three years in the entire decade where they played more than one championship game.

The thing with picking these sort of teams is that some players spread out their best over the end of one decade and the start of the next.

Pat Fox for instance was a magnificent player and a supreme finisher who did the business when Tipperary most needed him. Michael Cleary was good but Fox was comfortably superior.

John Leahy and Willie O’Connor are big omissions. Maybe John Power too though I think Kirby shades him. There’s more competition in the half-forward line than in any other area.

I don’t think Willie has any reason for complaint, Hanamy is ahead of him, Corcoran had to be in the team and unless Seanie Mc is ousted corner back is where it is,

Willie O’Connor played left half-back for much of the 90s so that’s where I’m thinking of.

Cleary as the token Tipperary man is bizarre.

Tipp’s two most consistent players of the 90’s were John Leahy and Declan Ryan.

Cleary had all stars about four years in a row

For taking frees, mainly.

For being consistently good , even in poor years for Tipp. 1990 and 92, Tipp didn’t get out of Munster but Cleary still came away with an all star. He wasn’t as eye catching as many of his peers but eye catching none the less

He was a very good hurler, certainly, but Ryan and Leahy straddled the whole decade and were better in my opinion.

Ryan, in particular, was a highly effective hurler for a long time with Tipperary

Absolutely agree that they were better players over the length of their careers, but there was merit to Cleary inclusion.
Ryan won three senior all Irelands in three different decades .

Agree. Hanamy was a classic specialist corner back and a great one at that.
