One long run a week is plenty with no marathon in sight. You should try a do a couple of speed sessions diring the week (a tempo and 400/800 repeats). That will bring you on more than an extra long run. Do foam rolling every day.
Quality over quantity
Every run should have a purpose.
how many days a week where you training for Dublin?
I just love to run mate, I’m not really thinking of anything when I lace up in the morning, I’ll have been looking forward to it since the previous day, I’m never going to win a race or run a 3 hour marathon, if training better means that I’m not enjoying myself I’d leave it off
hobbies are to be enjoyed
I still haven’t done any foam rolling. Need to get the finger out (and the foam roller)
Did a nice apple tart there.
Each to their own but you will never run a sub 3 hr marathon with that attitude. Why even enter if that is your mindset. You have enough ability to easily go sub 3.
what is the point @fenwaypark
You aren’t going to win the marathon, he’s just stated he enjoys the run more than the competition.
What’s the point in you entering if you aren’t going to beat a Kenyans time?
That’s the same as saying to a lad, why play hurling, football, rugby etc if you are not going to be elite.
Its about maximising your potential, whatever that maybe.
hurling, football and rugby are team sports and there are different grades to win at.
Individual sports are different. Running can be a hobby as well as a sport.
I golf. I golf because I like a walk and a chat and swinging a stick. I don’t golf to win competitions. If I had to practice at a driving range all day to get better, I’d give up. It’s a hobby
I disagree.
I originally told him to be careful about too many long runs. He said he bonked at mile 22 in marathon last year.
I told him that working on speed would be more beneficial to preventing that and gave examples. These are all still runs btw.
I guarantee you had a time in mind when running marathon last year. If he did not, then fair enough. But if he did, this chat about running for the sake of running is bullshit of the highest order.
running for enjoyment mate, doing thing to enjoy them.
there is a fishmonger down the road from my house. I’d say he is doing great business during this. I was always minded to ate more fish as I like it but never got around to it.
during the lockdown I now have a little tradition of walking down there two or three times a week and grabbing some fish and/or seafood. I just fried up some scallops in a load of butter for a couple of minutes there as a snack.
I’d ate that so I would
