Referendum 2024

That’s very true. They flirted with a bit of free thinking you can hear the crackling and giggling but it’ll be back to the status quo for the big one,

The government have played this wondefully, by fucking it up, they have done a real number on Mary Lou and Sinn Féin.

While Michael McDowell will get a lot of the credit, I cant help but feel the hand of @Fran weighted very heavy on the electorate yesterday.

Dead right. In fairness they sometimes get radical in the European elections. Mick Wallace and Ming getting elected prove that. Sending them off to Europe to show off.

However they won’t rock the boat for some party represented by Pepper/McDowell et al. Radical in a GE in voting in ROD, Mattie McGrath, Finucane, Collins, RBB. A collection of independents who will never coalesce as it will wash away their independent identity.

This is going to possibly be the best Mother’s Day ever tomorrow.

If your mother is still alive give her an extra big hug tomorrow. A mother will always be protected in our constitution, no matter what.

Tucker Carlson and Eva Vlar to lead the victory dance.

Yeah because what Ireland really needs is for our politics to depend on attention seeking fascists in America and Holland, that’ll really improve the country

Real grass roots stuff too

Tongue in cheek mate.
I doubt he could find Ireland on a map

I don’t think you get it fella.

Democracy is a joke. There’s way too many stupid people in the world.

What does the future hold for Michael McDowell?
He is 72 years old. A political orphan. But one with huge pedigree and a force to be reckoned with. He practically kept it pucked out to the establishment on his own here. Many independents didnt really engage with these 2 issues. He was given a significant platform by mainstream media to argue his case. But in retrospect it was probably in the absence of anyone else willing to do so.

Much of analysis will centre around the population being confused and too thick to understand. This despite the fact that Govt willfully ignored attorney general advice or didnt understand themselves and ministers contradicting each other on the very same tv shows.

The Irish electorate is interesting. They looked at these amendments in a discerning way and seemed to have come to the conclusion that the amendments were too vague and too uncertain and opened up too many unintended consequences to just trust their betters that the judges would interpret it.

It’s a victory for common sense and a lesson to the political and civil service class that Irish voters will check your homework and send it back if it doesn’t pass the what does this mean test.

Voting in favour of amendments to the constitution on a wing and a prayer where the advocates couldn’t articulate why they made sense and what effect they might have made no sense to the majority.

Pretty sure the two boys criticising SF are generally supporters of the party, but poor SF etc

This lessen chances of an Autumn ejection?

All though all parties ( bar Aontu) supported it.
McDowell and Johnny McQuirks new party could hold the balance of power
