Referendum 2024

Nah. GE round the corner. He’ll hang on for his goodbye money if he’s not reelected

Ah sure, he had to be sure.

Its all relative. Willie’s seat is safe as houses regardless.

Willies profile is much reduced in this current government, doesn’t seem to be called on for anything at all and can’t think of anything positive he’s done, so he needs to stick his neck out from time to time
He’s a dead duck in Fianna fail, embarrassing if he continues to run for the party

What are the main reasons it lost so heavily do you think? I still don’t understand it and I actually tried to

The care one was an old sop and wasn’t really a promise of anything.

People were wary of the inintended consequences of the family one, it was worded so badly.

The most prominent sign in my local village was “Vote no to protect the family farm”.

What age is he at this stage? His role within ff is irrelevant if he keeps his seat which he undoubtedly will. Its a numbers game and as long as willie pulls in the votes ff are happy to keep him there

I think it might have been one of them where they left it so confusing everyone had a different reason for voting no. They made an absolute cunt of it. I think it was cheasty said the repeal the 8th or gay marriage ones could be in trouble too if they were run now. He might be right.

Willie is around long enough, he knows the way the wind blows. He’d be some fucking eejit to give up a seat before he’s ready to. They need him often enough for a vote.

Wording and government arrogance. Simple as

The electorate wasn’t convinced of the importance or merits of the referendums and used them to express dissatisfaction with a pretty unpopular government as it approaches the end of its term, I think.

The mad thing is it’s hard to imagine any situation that they aren’t the government again next time

The result of the referendum will have absolutely no bearing on the general election. A completely different contest.

I don’t mind Willie, but he must lack in self respect to continue sitting in the FF back benches when he’s out of touch with the current party position, he might have some bargaining power as an independent.
His mention of a ‘woke gallery’ would have you wonder what he sees as woke?

Shatter on Drivetime now sticking the boot into FFG

I know but I mean almost everyone agrees they are very unpopular at this stage. But they’ll still have the most seats between them :person_shrugging:

Barry Ward now talking thru his arse now on drive time. Shatter making clean shite of him

You think Willie has myriad interests outside of politics? He’s 71, what else do you you see him going at?
