If you just listened to the news even the headlines instead of posting away here all day you wouldn’t make such a fool out of yourself every day. It’s been one of the main news stories on sky for two days now. A large portion of the uks crops will be wasted if they aren’t harvested.
That article states
Other countries use far more seasonal labour. Germany alone grants visas for about 300,000 workers each year. Britain takes in 90,000

Now, which is it you’re trying to say?
But these people dont carry out that work on a normal basis. Britain’s issue some years ago even, was it took in foreign labour and went about closing off their borders. I could ask a load of knackers from Carlow to come pick stones on my land, it doesn’t mean they are going to do it.

Sure you just said it was more lies You dopey bastard ffs. There’s thousands of people at home scratching their holes because of this virus while their food supply rots in a field. If they didn’t get a handy 350 pound for watching Netflix and drinking cans they might be quicker to get out and do a little bit of work. You’ve made an ape out of yourself again so you’d be as well to log off for the day and refresh yourself for tomorrow.
Those same people would have been scratching their holes anyway. They didnt offer themselves for the work for years when there was no payment, hence why they brought in foreign labour to do it. What makes you think they were going to get off their holes and do it now?
The 350 payment is for people who have been employed up to now but find themselves unemployed due to the coronavirus.
Existing dole payments remain unchanged.
Out of curiousity, the British version is identical to the Irish one?
Farming throughout Europe is still ongoing. Slower in its applications undoubtedly but it’s business as usual.
For example, Potato growers and Veg growers are doing extremely well right now as there is huge demand for product.
They are able to meet demand. Go figure.

Your point in relation to benefits in the UK is nonsense. How much is the new payment which is encouraging the population to sit on sofas?
All UK veg & fruit harvesting has been done by emigrants for years & years. Your average doler in the UK wouldn’t pick spuds for a £500 + a week ffs.
I think he reckons if you starve them enough, they would.
I’ve always thought welfare should be higher initially after someone loses their job.

I think the issue will be later along the supply chains. Farmers are more often self employed but factory workers processing stuff or distributing are not and may look more favourable to €350 a week and a mortgage/rent freeze, particularly when cases rise. I’ve heard anecdotally that this is an increasing issue for some.
Governments need to figure out what “essential services” include and let those people work. People involved in the logistics of delivering or actually delivering food are essential. There is plenty food being produced, there should be incentives to produce more.
More clear, rational thinking like this is needed as opposed to the grief junkies dominating the conversation.

That’s a very very good article. The basement dwellers will be hopping mad reading it. The application of appropriate statistical analysis methods has no place in their narrative.
Careful you’ll have a crowd of tulips after you demanding We stay in lock down forever more.
When you spend 18+ hours a day frantically pounding the keyboard on faux crusades, while swilling cans of Tuborg, your ability to apply statistical thinking to problems disappears.
