Yeah I thought both were poor though wasn’t surprised to see either starting. Just not sure that we were going to outplay them anyway.
Agreed though with everyone that we were too slow to change things and we needed to be more ambitious earlier.
As I posted during the week. We need 15 points to be assured of a top 2 spot regardless of the other games in the group. We now have 12

To be fair, even with a defeat on Tuesday, if we were offered a scenario at the outset of the group whereby a win in the last game at home to Denmark would qualify us we’d have taken it.
We just never win our crunch home games though.

Switzerland away will suit us. They were brutal in Dublin. They’ll have to come out and play a bit more at home.
In the medium term, two defeats in the last two games would be the ideal scenario for Kenny to take over. Expectations would be very low and would allow him time to rebuild and put his stamp on things.
He is utterly fucked if Mick manages to engineer results in the last two games to get us out of this group and into the Euros given the players at his disposal.

Correct. If we get to the euros there’ll be a clamor for mick to stay.
The Swiss are at nothing without Shaqiri. We are a much better side when we can dig in and counter rather than having to take the game to teams.

In fairness anybody looking for mick to stay should be forced to watch today’s game on repeat for 24 hours.
There was a palpable feeling of total irrelevance about today’s game
So many of these international football games feel so irrelevant and that was a classic of the genre
In each Eire qualifying campaign since about 1994, with the possible exception of the Euro 2000 and World Cup 2002 campaigns, it feels like the quality of players available has declined around 5% each campaign
The game reminded me of a podcast I listened to after the previous Georgia-Eire game in September 2017
Ken Early described how he had been watching that game at a family gathering
The women at the gathering said “this is the most boring thing I’ve ever seen”
Early’s 10 year old “football obsessed” cousin “didn’t watch a second of the game”, preferring to play a game on his i-pad

I myself didn’t bother watching most of the first half of that 2017 game, I was out getting my haircut
All the above is sort of how I felt half-watching the two-thirds or so today’s game that I half-watched
Within a couple of minutes of starting watching it it was completely obvious it wwould finish 0-0
I asked myself why I was even half-watching it, I could have been out getting rid of glass jars and bottles at my local bring centre or something
Mick is trying manfully with this team but the players are shite and even if the team miraculously qualifies it’ll be a case yet again of only being at the finals for the beer

The pundits are all intimating that we were lucky to get the point. I don’t see that at all.
Poor Darragh can’t grasp how a club player who trains & plays weekly with his squad can’t replicate it with lads they train & play with maybe 15 times a year.
