Duffy and Egan never looked in bother really. They got a bit of joy out wide but had fuck all to threaten the two boys.

Connolly really sharp, showed the vulnerability of their defence when he ran at them. Collins was hardly gonna run at them, they like big beefy target man and we played into their hands. Connolly really stretched them late on. 2 years time when Parrott can come on to the squad with a bit of experience can’t come quick enough

Incorrect. He is contextualizing the banality of Republic of Ireland football and specifically the international qualifying campaigns. His tone captures the drab monochrome nature of our performances in these campaigns and hidden in the subtext lies a yearning for something, someone, a moment of magic from somewhere, an Irish Maradonna, an Aaron Connolly perhaps. Anything to reinvigorate the passion he feels for this team, and indeed for the game itself.
He is articulating how it should not be a chore watching Ireland play but so often it can feel like it is. An outstanding piece of prose from @Sidney once again, no surprise it will fly over the head of most simpletons on here.
