Retiring GAA Stars tribute thread - May cause brain/neck damage

Since 2017 onwards it’s mainly been one way traffic.

Dublin have won their last 4 semi finals by 12, 9, 10 and 15 respectively.

Tyrone went 0-5 0-01 up after 15 minutes in 2018 and then sort of bottled it. Dublin were wobbling

The 2017 final is the highest, most intense standard of football ever played. A masterpiece. The 2013 semi-final was probably slightly more off the chain excitement wise but not as high a standard.

O’Sullivan was hooked shortly after as Bradley was giving him a bit of run around and Dublin began to get on top.

Dublin hit two quick fire goals in a period shortly before half time and Tyrone folded.

To beat Dublin you need to be hitting about 3 goals. Only Mayo are capable of matching a 15 man Dublin without it needing to be a goalfest at the Dublin end.

Wrong. :grinning:

He was replaced due to injury.

Everything about the 2017 football final was just perfect. No GAA game comes close to it.

The context of it too.

Dermo in the warm up.

A team going for 3 in a row vs a team looking to end a long famine. A rematch from previous year.

A full Croke Park in the late September sun.

2 brilliant goals.

2 Sendings off.

The Prodigal Son coming in at half time to rescue the situation.

Cillian O’Connor off the post.

A GPS being fucked at Dean Rock scoring the winning free.

The pure shithousery of the dubs on the last kick out from Clarke.

The Dubs holding onto the ball for a full 2 minutes at the end to see it out.

Jim’s face at the end.

Not forgetting Mid West Radio :grinning:

All of that. Two teams at their absolute peaks. The star quality of the players. The recognisable names. The individual battles. The quality of the defences, midfields and attacks. The expectation that this would be a true classic, which was fulfilled and then some.

The second best gaelic footballing accountant of all time.

Who’s the best?

Sean Cavanagh?

That moment when Mayo go 2 up with 63 mins gone and the whole crowd go quiet as Cluxton takes the short kickout and Ger Canning goes in the most ghastly tone of all time, ‘So Dublin, what have you got left?’

Correct. Might be a different list if Kevin Moran had finished his training with Oliver Freaney.

Ollie Freaney the best?

I think Con might surpass them all yet.

Is Cian O’ Sullivan retired from club football too or just county? His tweet would suggest both.

Both

Also it was Peter Harte on O’Sullivan (or the other way around) that day.

It was Mark Bradley you fool.

John Small was on Peter Harte.

Seems a pity to retire from club too but I suppose he played for Kilmacud Crokes and not a rural team who’d look to make use of a former county player until his late 30’s. You’d imagine he’d stay playing for the love of the game but the injury must be bad?

Time to advance his career too I’d imagine
