Retiring GAA Stars tribute thread - May cause brain/neck damage

Kerry played Tyrone in 03. Outscored by his marker Ricey from play.

Right, and yet more than Canavan or McConville scored from play in the final that year.

How did he outscore them?

PTG was injured.

McConville was a wing forward.

I understand that you have difficulties with the English language, given your Italian upbringing, but the Gooch scored more from play in the All-Ireland SFC semi-final v Tyrone of 2003 that Peter Canavan, Oisin McConville or Eoin Mulligan did from play in the Tyrone v Armagh All-Ireland SFC final of 2003.

The bigger issue now is who will fitzmaurice use now to mark philly macmahon ??..

Best of luck to you in retirement Colm, you were a great hero for your county.

I haven’t time to check it out but how does the Gooch’s all ireland score from play record hold up against Canavan’s?

Did the Gooch ever make a schoolboy error and cost his team a replay in the All ireland final?

Philly outscored him quite a bit too

he scored a rake vs mayo mate

didn’t do it in the tight games

Only did it against perennial bottlers like Cork and Mayo.

Gooch dived for this one.

He is (at least he was when he retired) the highest scored in the history of the Ulster Championship so it doesn’t matter where he was named to play. He was their main scoring threat and he failed to score from play.

Silly to compare McConville when he was a wing forward to Cooper.

McConville in his earlier days played inside much more. Took Moynihan for 1-09 in an All Ireland semi, hit 2-06 against Down in an Ulster final.

From play???

Now there was an overrated player - Seámus Moynihan. Colm Cooper was a very good player but not a great player. A great first half player as Joe Brolly said but not a great player overall due to his disappearing acts in tight games when faced by an aggressive man marker.

It’s a pity Tyrone didn’t have a forward that only does it against perennial bottlers like mayo in last years championship.

Coopers performance v Dublin in 2013 when he was on the way out was sensational. His pass for James o donoghues goal was a thing of beauty.

He’d a magnificent first half when Dublin had assigned Ger Brennan to hold the centre and Cooper drifted off him into space and dictated the play. They stuck Cian O’Sullivan on him in a man marking role in the second half and he didn’t touch the ball. A brilliant first half player, Cooper.

A pity Gooch never really did it in the face of adversity.

Incorrect. Johnny cooper marked him in the second half. If my memory serves me correctly colm made shit of him about ten minutes into the second half but the ref bottled it and didn’t give Johnny cooper the second yellow he deserved. Colm cooper tapped over the free but injustice was served. I was in the davin end that day.
