Nice tribute to Tom Kenny from Cork’s fitness coach

When I started with Cork, I kept saying to Tom ‘perfect’, after everything he’d do. The players kept giggling at me, because I didn’t realise ‘perfect’ was actually his nick name, and had been an ongoing joke with Tom for the last 10 years.
“And he was that good, at everything thing he did. He could just as easily have been a successful middle-distance athlete. He had the perfect stride, foot-plant, balance, cadence all of that. He would not have been out of place running the 800 metres.
“He’d do the running drills so perfectly I would actually use him to demonstrate them. I mean he was better than me. It was a little embarrassing for me, but that’s how good he was. Everything he did was perfect.

Gerrard is probably the most over rated player of the lot. Lampard has a fantastic scoring record in fairness and is up there but as for dictating the flow of a game, he goes hiding way too often.
Gerrard was great when he had no responsibility alright and when he had a Hamann, Alonso or Mascherano breaking their holes for him. Since Mascherano has left he hasn’t had a decent season and with his legs on the way out he doesn’t have the game intelligence that Scholes had to sustain himself for another few seasons.

Was he an athlete of note on the track?
Gerrard was never a central midfielder. But he possessed tremendous ability in terms of striking of the ball, general energy and ability to influence a match. As has been mentioned he pulled Liverpool around in Istanbul and was immense on one leg in 2006 FA Cup final. He was also brilliant when playing off Torres. I can never recall Scholes having as much of a game changing influence in matches.
So to pull him up on getting other ones to do his donkey work is unfair. He was never a donkey work kind of player. So much of his game was about energy but now as he gets older of course that is going to be affected. But I don’t think that is a slight on him. Scholes was a different player completely, no as much about energy, more about sitting and passing so naturally he is going to last longer.

That’s the same two games everyone references- You’ll notice it was the introduction of Hamann that was the catalyst in Istanbul- West Ham are/were pure muck.
Relax will you, it’s just a bit of chat. Threads go like this all the time. You’d swear your life was depending on keeping this thread on the topic of the title.
Hear here! We all know that I detest Paul Scholes and think Gerrard is the greatest thing since carved ham… It was only a bit of Friday bants with my online bezzers.
Newcastle were better than average for almost all of Shearer’s time there and were in the champions league for at least 2 of his prime seasons, maybe 3. As for your views on Scholes. Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Lampard, Gerrard, Beckham, Shearer and Rooney have been English players better than him in the last 15 years
